Alarms going off! 2004 Cougar FTD

The problem I am having is I am getting a solid sounding alarm while going down the lake, I dont know if its the navigation system or another alarm, I have plent of water pressure and its pumping out the engine ok. I was getting an “off course” alarm everywhere I go, so I need to figure out the navigation. But, I feel this is an alarm from the boat! What do I need to look for , can I get it tested at Norfolk? If it was oil wouldnt it shut the engine off? Water pumping fine, so dont think its temp related , but could be. What do I need to look for? Thanks, Gary

Yes, someone at Norfork will help you take it by the factory and those guys will point you in the right direction. Solid alarm is normally an overheat and not something to take lightly as it can be as devastating as oil. The off course alarm is a navigation alarm on the GPS, someone at the factory can help you with that too. I dont know without playing with the menus how to turn it off. Good luck. Judd Lasiter

for the off course alarm, hit menu twice and cancel navigation. Hopefully thats all it is. My little boy always gets mine on a route somehow and have to turn off the navigation.

Took the Courgar to the Mercury Tounament Support Trailer and the did a diagnostic on my alarm and had it fixed in 5 minutes! The BCB Support Guys came over to look at the boat and fixed two interior lights and even arranged for me to go out with a different flight if repairs took too long. Again, BCB above and Beyond the call of duty and I want to thank them all for their TRUE consideration for me getting to the launch on time! Cant say enough about them! Thanks to the Mercury Guys and BCB for a great experience that was causing me great anxiety! Didnt catch many fish in the crystal clear water, but met some of the nicest folks in the USA! OH and got a one in 21 chance to win a new boat for the drawing at the weigh in! Thanks! Gary

I had an intermittent alarm and fuel warning light going off on my 200hp Opti 99 P Cl. Took it by the Merc Trailer and Danny checked it out. Turned out someone, somewhere down the line had switched the alarm wiring and what I was really getting was an engine alarm. He put the computer to it and diagnosed malfunctioning throttle position indicators. They helped me locate the parts since they didnt have them in stock. Easy fix but who would have thunk it? No telling how much pain, suffering and money it would have cost me to get that mess sorted out elsewhere. I dont know how to do it but maybe someone at BCB can let Dannys boss know that he is a Bad A$$ motor tech. Glad he was there. Cheers, Jim

Its funny you guys mention Danny Vasquez and the rest of the Merc/BCB crew! They are truly magicians when it comes to anything and everything Mercury and/or Basscat! I cant say enough about any of them. Unfortunately, every year I go, theres always something I need done and its a very rare occasion that Im charged for anything, although Ive offered.. Rick Pierce is a true gentlemen and every single employee below him has the same characteristics, for that reason alone, I would never, I repeat NEVER own another brand of boat, I dont care if it were free, sponsored, whatever, it will always be Basscat for me! Kudos guys! Pat
