I have a Mercury 2006 250xs racing motor and it is at this time running Amsoil hp full synthetic. I have had it a year now and have not had a problemb. The previous owner switched to Amsoil at 100 hours. It has 218 on it right now and runs like a top. Could running a full synthetic cause a problemb in my optimax. Iam in need of oil and wondering if i should switch back to dfi oil or just leave it as it is. Your opinions would be greatly appriciated.
I have run DFI Merc oil in my last 2 Optimax motors. Just made sense to me and I have had no problems. A few years ago I read a lot of reviews and info on Amsoil. It seems guys either love it or hate it. Dan
Amzoil is great oil! IMO I think it more than SAFE. Just my opinion! I run dfi in the warmer months. Premium plus in the cooler months. Just my way . Ive run the premium plus for a while now.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
The AMSOIL HP is an awesome oil in any two stroke engine. The problem lies in how you warm the engine. The Mercury engines are a steel sleeved engine so it is critical to let the engine heat up to at least 120* before you hammer it. It doesnt really matter what oil is in it, if you do not get the temp to a safe range before wide open throttle operation you run the risk of cold seizing it. The full synthetic oil takes a little longer to heat the engine because of the higher lubrication qualities it possesses. Letting the engine properly warm up to a safe running temp allows the different metallurgy utilized in these engines to expand and retract safely. Also u should after a run when u set 5he boat down let it idle for a minute or so to let the engine climate ( this is wat I call it anyway) just shutting the engine down quickly after a run is definitly not good.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury

That is the main reason I got one was to keep an eye on the temp. Sherm recommended it and I am so glad he did.Dan
Really if u think about it. Its no different than a vehencle. After a night in the garage the oil has settled in the bottom of the pan. People crank up throw it in gear and go (cold starting) no lubrication. Over time u get pre mature engine wear. Know I know a 2 cycle oils differently. But we get the general ideal. EVERYTHING WORKS BETTER WITH A LITTLE WARM UP AND A LIITLE COOL DOWN. I do this with my simplest of tools. Even my weedeater.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury

For the life of me I dont get why guys come in plane and sit the boat down in the area they intend to fish which is way to often right next to me. For crying out loud, come off plane a ways out and idle in giving the motor a chance to cool AND not scaring the hell out of the fish!
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP IT IS GREATLY APPRICIATED. THIS OIL THING HAS WORRIED ME FOR A WHILE. IT HAS BEEN RUNNING THE AMSOIL FOR OVER 116 HRS SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THE BEST I CAN TELL. THE PREVIOUS OWNER LET IT SIT UP FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS. I HAD A CERTIFIED MERCURY MECHANIC GO THROUGH IT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM THAT WAS A YEAR AGO AND I HAVE NOT HAD ONE PROBLEMB. EVEN SO MUCH AS A BEEP OUT OF IT. THIS 2006 250XS RACING DIVISION MOTOR SEEMS LIKE A PRETTY GOOD RUNNING MOTOR IT PURRS LIKE A KITTEN. LIKE I SAID IT HAS 216 HRS ON IT WOULD THEIR BE ANYTHING ELSE THAT I MIGHT NEED TO DO TO IT AT THIS TIME. I ALSO WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE COMPRESSOR ON IT SO THE MECHANIC TOOK IT APART AND SAID IT LOOKED LIKE NEW SO I DID NOT REPLACE IT. ALSO REPLACED POPPIT VALVE COMPLETE AND ALL OF THE SMALL FILTERS GOING TO THE COMPRESSOR. AND ALL NEW SEALS IN THE SPORTMASTER GEAR CASE. THANKS AGAIN FOR EVERYONES ADVICE.

I purchased everything I needed from sherm. Installed myself. Would be without a way to read water temp. The other features of smart craft are nice no doubt but Watertemp to me was my sole reason for installment.. even my old cat had a analog watertemp gauge.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
