Pete has done a good job of putting this ugly can of worms in perspective. Its long, but worth the read.Kudos, bro.http://insideline.net/ind…og-pete/691-rule-on-thisReally like the toothpaste analogy. Funny AND true.
Im not really sure what in the heck i just read and quite honeslty i think Pete got lost in his own story, but the rules are plainly written, there needs no explanation of them, what part of sportsmanship, integrity, and being a professional does this guy not understand? And this slap on the wrist is simply unacceptable. Just making sure i have this stuff right here:IKE: DQd for having a fighting match with his lightpoleKVD and another angler: DQd for letting a co angler drive the Boat during an official practice day. Dumb but it is a rule.IKE: DQd cause he wanted to take a look at the hooters girls and ended up fishing out of bounds… I dont blame ya there IKE!Skeet: DQd Finds a sixth fish in the well AFTER the weigh in and SELF reports it- good job skeet!Wellman: Not once, but 2,3, or 4 times (depending on which story you read) offered to buy his co-anglers fish off him, drive him to the middle of the lake where no one would see, and daddy would take care of him back at the dock. ADMITS he made the comments but was only “joking”: PENALTY: 2500 bucks and a year of probabtion? WOW: Am i missing something here???
Kevin thanks for the link. I was over on BBC Lounge and found the co anglers side to this” he said/she said” . I thought it interesting. It is apparently posted to the lounge by a friend. I cant guarantee its accuracyNates co angler speaks out. First 1 2 3 > Last Author Post happy2bfishindip stick….Online 1032 postsfishers inNates co angler speaks out. 3:13 PM 9/7/2011 Reply Edit ——————————————————————————–I was asked by my friend joe to post this here so he might be able to shed some light to those of you still hung up on the “it was just a joke” thing. I have stood stead fast beside him as many others have, defending him when I could. I still dont understand how anyone could ever think anything bad about Joe or what he has done. I hope hearing this straight from him sheds some light on the situation and gets all the haters to understand, this was not a joke, and it was never intended to be..And now if you have a problem with him you can take it up with him.JOHNI was the co-angler that was propositioned by Nate on the final day of the BASS open in Sandusky.I wish none of this would have happened and to be quite honest I feel bad for Nate.I think he made a terrible mistake once he started thinking about not making the Classic. I dont know Nate, but aside from the offer I enjoyed the beginning of the day with him. I told Nate that I would net my own fish so he could have more time to fish. I knew what was at stake for this young man and I didnt want to do anything to ruin his chances. I also know that when he said ” he would give me a thousand dollars for my fish” and that “his dad walks around with one to three thousand dollars cash in his pocket and we could meet up with his dad after the weigh in to take care of it” and the fact that he said” he would drive me out to the middle of …the lake to transfer the fish to his live well so that no one would see” was not a JOKE! Why would you say a “joke” to a person you have known for about three hours of this magnitude? I know some of you believe what Nate did was harmless and he was truly joking. That is your right and I am just trying to let you know what really happened. I myself would never joke about something this important to a person I barely know. The people that know me have stood up for me as you would expect them to. It is the others that believe what I have said and know I had nothing to gain by telling this that have commented on what I did. There are also people calling me names and saying what is said in the boat stays in the boat…REALLY? What type of people are there out there that would let somebody try to cheat in a sport that we all love? I wonder what those people would be calling me if I had taken the money and then BASS found out? I did what was right in my mind PERIOD.Believe what you want. That is one of the greatest things about the country we live in. Another question that has been brought up is, Why didnt I say something right away? The answer as far as saying something right away, I dropped the ball. Truth be told, I was scared. I didnt know what to do and with 150 or so people out watching us weigh in, I was afraid.Sorry I dont have better answers than this, but thats the truth. So keep hating on me and telling what you would have or have not done. Until you are in a similar situation, do you really know what you would do? As for me. I can wake up every morning and look in the mirror and know I did what was right and I have. By the way if you want to ask me questions or call me a “tool” a “dick” or a “snitch” you now have my facebook address.Sincerely,Joe Stois Sr.
K wouldnt call someone a cheater. Above the fray he is..and should be on this one!Me on the other hand…NOT.C.O.D. Jr. III
Jay Laws post above puts this situation in better perspective then Petes article and Jay did it in viewer words. B.A.S.S. failed on this one if the info that Ive read about the situation is accurate.
Lets not forget that BASS has new ownership and they are still seeking their stride. No we are not covering for them, and the FLW actions were with limited risk in comparison to the BASS position. Still their view point is different than any we can have or that of FLW. Lest we forget that FLW has previously covered up some very tense situations and no one grandstanded those efforts. The actions BASS took placed the penalized angler in a different light and put him in the bottom of a pot hole on a very busy street.
BCB I agree with you to a point, but with it being said about the new ownership, this, in my opinion, is the perfect opportunity to send a message of zero tolerance! Seems to me that another one slid by!
Zero tolerance,,,,,,puhleeeze. BASS may get back there someday, but with the tech. advances in the field today there are so many ways to “enhance” youre chances of winning that imho it all comes down to character, period. We used to have it, and need it back badly. Character, honor, respect, and above all maybe some loyalty thrown in while we are at it. In BCBs corner i maintain their prostaff is probably some of the finest people on the tour. All i have met i have been impressed with, and they should be proud of them, they are leaders by example. On the other hand ,,,,, http://www.bassmaster.com/video/basscam … ral-open-2
basket-I wasnt saying that there is a zero tolerance but that this would have been a great time to head back in that direction!
I need to take a shower after watching that video.BASS made the wrong choice but I do believe it was they only choice they had with their current rule structure. I would not want to be his next Co…I give the Co big props for doing what he did. Must have been hard. Hopefully the other Elites can “take care” of this on their own. I know we do in the walleye world.
