Coming home Saturday afternoon, the tread on one of my Cooper Cobras (passenger tires) seperated. I am thanking the good Lord my fender wasnt damaged. I have a tandem trailer and the other 3 looked like they could seperate at any time, too. These tires are just 3 years old and Im not sure I want to go back to Coopers. I think BassCat is putting Mastercraft (passenger) tires on tandems but no one sells them around here. I know this topic gets a lot of attention on here but Id appreciate any advice!! Im open to getting trailer tires but want to keep the raised white letter look. Thanks!!!!
A few guys on the TFF have started using the Maxxis tires and apparently theyve been pretty happy with them.
Ive said it before , and Ill say it again , with conviction !! — Trailer tires are DESIGNED for trailers , although there are differing opinions on this issue . — Maxxis tires / replace every 3 years / NO PROBLEMS EVER !! — This has been my method of madness and the results thereof . — Hoss

Mine are the mastercraft tires. When I replace It will definitly be some sort of trailor tire.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
Theres hardly a trailer tire worth looking at. ST tires have lower specs and the RV community call them “China Bombs”. As folks have said – the Maxxis 8008 seems to be giving very good service. May want to consider going with a truck tire for the higher specifications. I like the ones built for panel trucks that have overbuilt sidewalls and a highway rib tread design for better towing. I run the Maxxis UE-168 bravo thats built for commercial panel trucks. In 225-70/15 they have a max load of 2469 lbs. in a 8 ply tire thats speed rated for 106mph. Not that youd go that fast – but trailer tires are only rated for 65mph and Ill run 70+ on the highway. On a tandem axle, the 9800# capacity is cruising at the weights we carry. Mine have given me 20,000+ miles over the past 4 years with zero issues whatsoever. My tire guy says its the most overbuilt tire hes ever put on a trailer. As I run a single axle trailer a failure could put me on the side of the road and late for a tournament. Ill be buying another set this spring.
RayburnCat1, after my Firestone Indy 500 tires were changed due to age, 2006 Puma, I went to the BF Goodrich Radial T/A, I saw these tires on new trailers coming from Basscat for a short period of time and they have that raised white letter look. I think they used them while looking for a replacement for the Firestones. Never an issue with either the Indy 500 or BF Radal T/A. Towed to Sam Rayburn, Lake Fork running highway speed, 75 MPH, sometime more than that in Texas, no issues. Always made sure the tire pressure was checked frequently as well. Seen a lot of Cooper tires in the parking lot with the same issue you had. I would never buy or use them on my rig. My 2 cents worth.
Having tire problems always slows you down. Bad joke? Anyway as far as trailer tire vs standard tires. Ask yourself this. Would you put a trailer tire on the vehicle that you drive your children around in?

My new Cat has the Cooper Discovered but I had the same problem with the Cobras on my 09 Cat. I went to a 6 ply ST rated tires. It was recommended by the Cooper Service Center.
I changed out my 7 year old Firestones for Cooper Cobras last year. Havent had any issues whatsoever. Cooper has outstanding CS (at least in my area). If youre having tire issues I wouldnt hesitate to contact them. Theyll replace the bad tire, and most likely, the other 3 as well if youre not satisfied.Ive had 2 sets of Marathons and 1 set of Maxiis on other boats. I had problems with all 3 to the point of having to replace one or both tires at my expense. Ive had several sets of Cooper tires on trucks, cars, and trailers over the years. And Ive had a few bad ones in the bunch. Theyve always replaced them without question. As stated, Cooper Cobras and Mastercraft Avengers are identical tires made on the same machine and stamped with a different name.

I swore never again on the coopers since Ive experienced 5 blowouts. I went w/ Mastercraft since that is what BCB now uses. Had I known they are simply rebagged Coopers I would have gone with another tire. Last edited by rlb8s on November 25th, 2015, 9:55 pm, edited 1 time in total.
