I am still playing with the set up on my Jag and since the boat and motor combo is new to me I could use some input.2000 Jag with a factory manual jack plate250 EFI 5850 max factory rpms26 pitch Trophy PlusSo far the best I have gotten is 74.8 with two big guys @ 5750, 1/2 fuel tanks and a full TX load ,empty live wells. This is summer speeds and I know that my speeds will be higher in the fall with cooler weather and I have yet to run it with a light load with just me in the boat. I am presently waiting for a set of Chris Carson reeds to arrive and although I dont expect any increase in power I could gain a little in rpms and economy. Most of what I see posted is specs on the 250 XSs so I wouldnt think I could reach those levels and really dont know what to expect. I respect many of you and your years of experience and would appreciate hearing what your thoughts are. There is no one around here to borrow another prop from to try so I am kind of stuck with that I have.Last edited by Olddawg on August 10th, 2010, 3:26 am, edited 1 time in total.
26 Fury should fix you up. The next choice would be a 27 Trophy. Though what you have sounds pretty good! 75 w/ 2 and a full load is nothing to frown upon. The only way youre going to get more mph is to try a larger prop. You will be at max rpms if you run the boat alone or when the weather cools off.
Because I cant afford 2 props at the moment how would the 27 Trophy affect my hole shot in summer weather?
I know BCB isnt fond of the idea, but Id suggest getting with a good prop guy. Give him specific #s and rpms along with your performance goals. It has been the cheaper alternative to buying new props. Ive had excellent success, but not everyone likes this option. Im sure BCB will hop on and share their reservations, (which I always appreciate). I for one would do it again in a heartbeat. Steves custom props is outstanding.
74.8 with two big guys @ 5750 when tournament loaded isnt anything to scoff at on an 11 model year old boat. Eaking out a few extra MPHs may be possible w/ tweeks to the prop or purchasing a new prop, but you really have to ask yourself if it is worth the $ to do so. I recommend verifying w/ BCB that you are running the proper prop for the set up. If you are, great, you are done and go enjoy your pride and joy that you put so much time and $ into. If not, see if someone on here can swap prop for prop for the one BCB recommends. Good luck.
We think you are maxed out on a standard 250 as this is not a 250 Pro XB with performance fuel rails, heads, tuner and more. This is basically more like a hot 225 and you are close. Any gains would be tickles and not large increases. The Fury in a 25 or 26, we think 26, might help some and you could gain a mph or so. Though you may not gain that much as this engine is a lower pony model than the HP model. The XL versions ran about like you are now on this rig when we ran them. You do have a better ability in the power produced to carry more of a load, though empty there is not a huge difference. One another note, One of the things that comes to mind on the 250 engine we ran was a Bassmaster Bass Boats article, where we listed the MSRP at around $38,500 the masses thought we were crazy for expecting to sell a 20 boat and a 250 engine for almost $40k. Funny how things always come full circle and we know we have peaked the market potential somewhat today. Though people who can afford it will pay for what they want and recent times are no exception. On your rig we think your about where you can get with a feasible expenditure. BCB
Olddawg,After being in my brothers 1998 Jaguar that is one pimpin ride. I think your numbers for the posted the weight load is impressive for this time of the year.BassCat how in the heck are you getting that much leg room in those older model Jags? Man are they ever comfortable to drive with a hot foot.Last edited by Flyswatter on August 10th, 2010, 12:29 pm, edited 2 times in total.
They are not a modular design on the console. They are the old school methods.
The engine does have a short tunner and will shortly have composite reeds and I have located XB electronics and heads. I am in agreement with being almost maxed out with the present configuration. I am pleased with how the boat is running but being an old gear head always urges you forward when it comes to speed. There may be a few more mph available with a prop change although I would prefer to go with another Trophy instead of the Fury. Thank you all for the feed back, its greatly appreciated!

All I know is you get a hole bunch more leg room behind the wheel. I noticed the console is a bit further back in the jaguar vs. todays basscats. That being said I noticed the difference sitting behind the wheel. Those are awesome boats and way ahead of their time. Olddawg, you got one heckuva a boat.
