Mike,Like Gary said you can use either just depends on if you want your Talon to move up and down when you move your plate. I mounted my between my transom and my Hyd plate so I set the height and dont have to worry about it anymore. If you go between your plate and motor then you will have to set it at the level you will be running your plate when WOT. In my opinion that height may change depending on conditions so you may be dragging your Talons.If you have any further questions let me know. I will try to post some pics of my setup.Jamey
