To All,I just moved to TX from coastal GA. and recently started to get back into the bass but I do miss chasing the reds…I would love BCB to build a boat that has no carpet, saltwater trolling motor and other salt water friendly features with aluminum trailer..something that you could very easily fish the bass then take it down to the coast and chase the redfish and trout. Maybe a SABRE COASTAL EDITION…all white with blue or red accents, minn kota riptide with auto pilot, 8ft powerpole, and white ETEC saltwater edition. (it doesnt hurt to dream) I know ranger has one and they are very hard to find and very pricy, dont know if the interest is there with BCB owners????? Anybody else agree.
their are others that agree but BCB says in a nutshell that Crossover bass boats are pretty rare for sales, people love that cushy carpet I guess…..Stroker is working on a Killer Boat I heard, wonder if it will go 115? Anyways if the public screams for a “Crossover” it will happen, but BCB seems to have no plans….Sorry….Brannon
I fished out of a pathfinder bay boat for years that didnt have carpet..Carpet just seems to stain up and is very hard to clean and wears out, finished out fiberglass inner shells are easier to clean, and stays looking better for much longer?? It is also very cool in the summer time.
This topic seems to pop up every few years. And if memory serves me correctly, BCB has indicated that the cross over market is extremely small and doesnt justify the expense of production/tooling for such a model. The baycat, felix, or the new skiffs are your noncarpeted BCB models options.
As Richard said, the topic isnt a new one. I talked to Rick via emails quite a bit while I was trying to sell/trade the Baycat I used to have. He said the market is fairly limited. The Baycat is a good quality rig, but after having one, I found there is nothing different on it, that makes it more salt water friendly, other than not having carpet, than any other BassCat. As far as the trailer in is concerned, you can order any BassCat with an aluminum or a galvanized trailer. Knowing all of the thought that BCB puts into their boats, Id say if they felt there was a market for a “Coastal Cat,” they would be building one.Last edited by billius on April 11th, 2010, 12:13 am, edited 1 time in total.
best way for you do get this is find a dealer that will work with you to “custom build what your afterorder the boat with out a trailer and spec no carpet there are companies that make a “vinyl / rubber type” floor covering for use instead of carpet I know of one place to ask but not sure about listing another boat man/dealer name here so IM if you want ityou can get alum trailers theres a manuf in Texas (use google) or TNT trailers (two there are more) you might be able to order salt water troller installed by BCB if not order without and buy through dealer etcyou could just order the hull and engine and rig out the boat yourself or have your dealer do it ( might have to shop around to find a dealer interested in helping you )go over to bass boat central and the Stroker forum you can check out the Stroker three guys (Brent, Eli, and Todd) turned into a “intracoastal” (its the one thats done 117mph so far)link http://bbcboards.zeroforu…ject-boat-white-knuckelsjust some ideasLast edited by Charcoal Puma on April 11th, 2010, 12:00 am, edited 2 times in total.
I have been trying for years to talk Bass Cat into building a Cross-over boat. I owned two in the past, one a Triton TX-186 and a TX-21. I really liked both boats very much. The TX-21 had some problems with delamination of the deck. I really loved both boats, but they had their limitations. For one, they both drafted too much water to be completely effective in the flats, and they were both hard to pole. In addition, any part that was not salt water resistant corroded quickly. I guess it is probably best to own two boats, one for the salt water flats and one for bass fishing. Corky
A crossover would be very cool. A P2 or a cougar ftd? Probably not going to happen. I can say that a baycat is a fishing machine. Whether its lake Fork or 40+ miles offshore, it will do it all. They are also extremely fast and dry. Great boats.
Just a thought for those who really want a no carpet model. Im not being sarcastic, I have seen this done on a couple of boats (not basscats) and it actually turned out very nice. You could order a new Bass Cat without carpet and take the boat in to have a Rhino liner in your favorite color sprayed throughout. It would be pretty expensive though. I know they charge about 500 dollars just to do the cockpit area if its a color other than black. I dont know how this would really work but it is a thought. I will be doing this to my cockpit area when my carpet needs replacing but will leave carpet on the decks. I like the comfort and silence of the carpet on the fishing decks. We dont think BCB will build a boat that is not complete, though this would be a top end decision.
