anybody know how to get this off?

I bought an 88 P2 and my father in law and I are refurbishing it. It is a PITA but we are making progress. Carpet stripped, cleaned the disgusting mess in the bilge, cleaned the fuel tanks and started wet sanding. We ran into one issue. There is a metal plate on the rear deck where the rear seat post meets the deck. It is on top of the deck but there is carpet under it. There were four bolts holding it down and we removed those but it still wont come off or move. It is something done by a previous owner as Bass Cat does not do this. Anybody have any ideas how to get it off?

Im guessing the prior owner used adhesive to “help” the attachment. With some heavy leather gloves or wrapped around a wooden handles try sliding a really fine guage wire between the two. I have seen this used to remove even glass from a hard surface where epoxy had been used, so it should be fine with the metal.Good Luck,John

We think they drove it into the existing seat post and that is wedged in there. BCB

Looking at it, I would bend the plate up enough to get a couple of nuts under it then screw some bolts through a chain into them get a bottle jack stradle the plate with wood drape the chain over the jack ram and start pumping, it will pull it out.BrianBrianHAWG Hunter2013 BassCat Eyra2013 Mercury 250 Pro XS Gen2 L/U

Well Rich, I was kinda hoping not to have to do any fiberglass repair after we got it off so I am not sure explosives would be the answer. But funny. Very funny!!

If its on that good then just drill out the hole (if its too small for the seat pole you will use) and carpet over it.

well we shouldve just carpeted over!!! it came unglassed from the bottom!! so much for that awesome set of tools! crap oh well looks like Im gonna get a fiberglass lesson!!!!
