On the way home from the lake yesterday, and started noticing a thump that seemed like is was comeing from the trailer. At first though maybe had a knot come up on a tire. There was no place to pull over and by the time we made it to a parking lot it was really bad. After having my partner pull the trailer up slowly and determing it was on the front right hand axle, I could not see anythin on the tire, but could here a thump. after standing back and looking at it, I notice a lug nut missing. I reached down and checked the others and had 3 that were loose enough to hand turn. Took the wheel off (only one lug was tight enough to need the wrench.) and fould that there were 2 of the studs completly loose and one you could push pou of the whole. I am sure this was from the rim being loose and shifting on the studs. I bough this trailer from BCB back in the spring and have never pulled this tire off since owning the trailer. My question is am I a subject of foul play or has anyone else ever had lug nuts work loose? BCB – Do you think I will be able to go and have new studs installed? Or are the holes probably reemed out too much with all the play and I will need to order a new hub? This is a sealed hub (axle end unit).
I dont want you to take this the wrong way , but , did YOU ever check the lugs since the purchase ???? — Aluminum wheels especially need to be checked periodically to make sure they stay tight . — You might be able to find some studs that are just slightly larger on the knurled portion that would fix the looseness , but recommended fix would be to get a new hub .– You might want to check the rest of them if you havent already . — Hoss
I have been kicking myself for not checking, and will make this a regular maintenance item. My old trailer had steel rims. This is my first experience with aluminum. I think I will go with new hub as parts and labor would probably run higher than a new hub. Plus the added comfort of not worrying about if the replacements will fix it. Thanks for the response.

Several yrs back I ruin a wheel due to nuts being loose. Now as a pre-trip inspection. This is checked before I leave the drive. Im funny about lug nuts anyway. No impacts!! Hand torque only. This goes back a bunch of yrs. Long story short! NO IMPACTS!2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
Ive never had a problem with trailer nuts coming loose, car nuts on the other hand is a different story. To add to your paranoia of it being a possible theft. I had someone take all 5 air caps off my trailer and spare one time when I was fishing. At another place someone stole both my taillights.
Dad and I were fishing on the Arkansas River in Dumas Arkansas and when we got back to the ramp a man had his entire trailer stolen. I now have lockable pin in the receiver hitch and in the trailer. Just something else to worry with…unfortunately. Purchased new 5/4/15Bass Cat Sabre Vision EliteMercury Pro XS 150MotorGuide 75lb Tour EditionHumminbird – Stock (will be changing soon I hope)
https://www.amazon.com/MASTER-LOCK-1481 … aster+lockIt it may not be much but its a deterrent if nothing else, and also have a locking lug on the spare tire, and 2 of my lug nuts have the “keyed” lugs where you have to have the “keyed” adapter to loosen the lug nuts. They come in 4-packs Again its only a deterrent but it may save a headache at some point in time.Purchased new 5/4/15Bass Cat Sabre Vision EliteMercury Pro XS 150MotorGuide 75lb Tour EditionHumminbird – Stock (will be changing soon I hope)
Arkansasfisherman.back when I was in my early 20,s. One of the places I fished on the river was unhabited.got back to ramp and same thing a mans trailor had been stolen. I ask him “you have a lock on it”. He said” Young man I want you to come look”. The low down theif had just screw the nut off the hitch. Took ball and trailor. I know always spot weld the nut in 3 places.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
