Just changed out the actuator on an 07 trailer and now i need to change a caliper and found some hoses that look bad, not leaking yet but wont be long. Most of my fitings strip before they loosen up so Im just going to replace it all. Most of the brake lines are metal tubing is there a reason for the tubing or can i just run flexible hose from front to back? Any other advice greatly appreciated never messed with brakes before so gonna be a learning experience.
The newer flex hose was not available that restricts volumetric expansion of the hose. Long runs of rubber hose reduce braking capacity significantly.
Ok so i need to get some tubing. Do yall know what size it is?
Contact BCB for a steel brake line kit.
I know this is going sound bad but I dont mean it to be bad. If you are not mechanical enough to measure yourbrake line to find out what size it is, there is no way that you can rebuild your brakes and expect them to worklong term. Johnny
^ maybe when he asked he was at work and wanted to stop & buy new line on the way home. Thus, asking b/c he wasnt able to go measure. Just saying…………..13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods

Was looking at stainless steel kit on the internet at work was just trying to verify the tubing size before ordering. Wont ask anymore questions. Thanks for the replies.
CcFish, Good for u on tackling the repairs to help saving money. This day and time we all need to get back to fixing things our selfs. Once you do this once it will be a piece of cake the next time. The only other thing u need is a brake bleeding vacuum tool to finish this repair right. If u don t want to tackle that part then , replace all parts your self then make an appointment with your local marine dealer to bleed them for you. But before you haul it to dealer add some brake fluid to actuator. As a boat owner this is something you will have to do more that once in your lifetime .2014 Puma FTD 250 XS
Ccfish, Please dont hesitate to ask questions here. This is a fairly light topic here and little is archived on it. Meauring the lines is the proper method and ss lines are out there for more $$. We have the base line kits available with flex hoses. On the disc brakes you can cycle the front coupler with a pry bar inside to bleed, with a buddies assistance to release the bleed screw on the caliper cylinder when you press the master piston, then tighten the leed screw before you release it. Repeat the process from the shortest distance line first and bleed both lines twice. On a drum brake trailer you cause the safety cable to bleed by pulling it with something wrapped inside the cable for leverage like a handle. Same process on the wheel cylinders of releasing the cylinder when you have pressure on the cable and tightening the bleeder screw before (BEFORE) you release the cable. Drop a hose into a glass jar to see the line burp air. Once you have no air bleed the opposing side and repeat that process to remove that little bit of air that got pinned at the T fitting slightly past the junction. Air compresses and oil does not. DOT 3 brake fluid is used in all BCB trailers and DOT 5 (silicone added) can only be used if the fluid is all purged and flushed totally. New lines would allow this and if you rebuild all the cylinders draining and cleaning them you can go to DOT 5. Put a label on the coupler that it contains DOT 5 so no one ices the fluids accidentally. They do not mix together well.
