anyone out there ever remove a keel guard from their cat?

i can save $100 by removing my old keel guard by myself. anyone ever “try this at home” ? seems like with the right tools/chemicals, it shouldnt be that hard to remove, but i dont want to screw up my fiberglass by doing something stupid. any insight would be appreciated. (will be replacing with a hamby)

Pay the $100!!!!!! I spent a total of about 8-10 hours on mine. I used every chemical I could fine from WD-40 to Acetone. Nothing wroked well. I ended up on my back with a small razor scraper slowly scraping away the glue/tape that is left when you remove the rubber part. I will never do it again!!!thanks,Jon

I agree. Pay 100 bucks.I took a keel guard off my pleasure boat and it is work. I had the same results as vonj123 except that I also used a hand held sander.

Pay the $100.00. I tried this once and I would never do it again. I would pay $200.00 or possibly more to have someone else take it off. It was not fun believe me.
