Topic: Anyone send their Detwiler back to be rebuilt/updated?

Long time listener first time caller here.I am relatively new to the BCB family,I purchased a 2004 Pantera IV from a friend last year and I have only been able to use it a few times.I am working out any kinks I can find,and one of the biggest pains is the Detwiler Hydraulic jack plate.I put a new seal kit in it,and one trip to Lake St.Clair and it leaked and quit.I called Detwiler,and they will rebuild it with the newer pump etc. for 500.00.Wanting to know if anyone has done this? are you happy with the result? I mainly use this boat on Erie and St.clair so I was wondering if I should just take it off and go to a manual? I love being able to brop it all the way down in rough water,but otherwise I never touch it.I also have a transducer sheild bracket on it for my SI trans that I would rather not scrap also.Thoughts please? Thanks.

That is an excellent price tag for the repair which requires a new pump assembly entirely. We know it seem high though it really is within expectations. The present SeaStar company is not an affiliate of the older Detwiler company and they did purchase the brand to insert in the Teleflex, now SeaStar, product line. Jackplates have come a long ways since years ago and they are going to continue to evolve as time goes on. BCB

Factoty rebuit gets my vote. Pay, intall, go fishing. Time of the year to fish, not fis stuff. I say that I did put new MG shaft in last, took 2 hours and works great
