The Aqualon cover that came with my boat has two ratchets on the back, where is the correct place to hook these?

The suggested connection point is on the engine. If you have a Mercury then they slip in furthest in angle stem holes outwards of the trim pins. If you have a Yamaha we use the pockets where the trim pins seat and they ride nicely in there.
