I hope i spelled that right. The Cowboy division BFL has us going there in April Or May, I cant remember which month I was told.Any of you locals mind talking about seasonal patterns down there? I dont want location or baits, I am just curious as to fish behavior in the area. Thanks
primarily the river levels….they determine patterns as much (if not moreso) than the weather. my guess is the tourney launch will be in the morgan city area, again (the “basin” is a pretty big place), and crankbaits, top waters and texas rigged soft plastics will dominate. the atchafalaya basin is a shallow water fishermans fantasy land, so dont be surprised if multiple lures are being fished successfully. but again….lets see what the river level is first.still….way, way, way to early to tell you anything with any kind of certainty.
Where did you see BFL Cowboy schedule? Ive been looking and cant find it. Do you know the rest of them??
Like catter said it is just to early to say with the water levels. I hope it is not flooded for ya ll. We had 17.5#s Sat and dropped the ball Sun and could not catch a limit ended up with 6.22# the water is tidal influenced also and that will play on your areas. They will be post spawn for the most part spinner bait, square bill 1.5s, jigs, and punching grass is what Im doing that time of the year in th Basin. Let me know where ya ll are launching, most likely the public launch. Look me up about two weeks before and I will help you out some more.
Greenhornet go to http://www.flwoutdoors.com , there is a bar that has tournaments, click it, it will drop down, click on BFL, it will have home of walmart blf on the bar, click it, slid down to what division you want to look at.Last edited by Issy1 on September 1st, 2011, 3:10 pm, edited 2 times in total.

April in the Basin can be Great if the river levels are not too high. It can also be very tricky. Generally speaking this time of year the bass are still in the backwaters, and the dead ends. Red bandit 100 crankbaits, Red Bug baby brush hogs, your favorite topwater plug should get it done. But as everyone else is saying it is completely dependent on the water level. Look for levels at Butte La Rose to be below 11ft. , and Morgan City below 4 Ft. If the water is above this point the fishing gets tougher for those who arent very familiar. There are some who can catch them in the basin no matter how high the water is. Just a heads up though, The water is normally high in the Basin at this time. You may want to familiarize yourself with the route to “run around” to lake verret. I know this is very broad information but when its closer to the actual tournament date you can message a few of us and well get more specific. To be fair, I am not nearly what you would consider a ringer in the Basin. I can help you with how to get around and areas to concentrate in, enough to get you started anyway, but there are many here who are better tournament anglers in the basin. the atchafalaya basin is truly one of Gods great gifts to this country….especially outdoorsmen. if youve never been before, then i am confident youll leave amazed….fish or no fish.
