attention bcb admin. torsion springs question

i have 2010 piv with torsion springs. these fit into what i would call square tubing axle. after loading or unloading the boat water is running out the ends of the square tubing. rust is already around the end of the tubing, i am concerned that this will eventually cause a failure since water is inside the axle. this will be just like a trailer made from square tubing rust out and fall a part. is there a seal that should keep the water out?

No issues have been experienced yet. Thats not saying there wont be any.

should water be coming from the axles or is there seals that should stop water from entering the axle. the axles will not dry inside. they will rust out in time

They obviously could, though holes are required to Cool, Heat and seal the axles. They force the rubber cords in the tube with a tremendous amount of force. The tube must vent.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on November 2nd, 2012, 3:14 am, edited 1 time in total.

what i am asking about is the square tube that runs from wheel to wheel that the torsion springs are mounted in. looks like a cap over the end of each end and this is where the water is running out

Yes, that is the area the previous monitors are speaking of. The ends are forced into the tube and there is no way to really seal it. Worst case is rebolting a new axle should there be an issue. You can it get away from this on torsion axles. BCB

it will be a problem because mine are already rusting bad where the caps are attached to the square tubing

We hope not in a reasonable time frame and after BCB switched to Vault hubs on UFP torsion axles it seems most every major bass boat trailer has switched to the same axle now. As do most upper end ski boats.

vault hubs are working fine that is not my concern. keeping them from falling off rusted out square tubing is a concern. may not happen next week but it will become a issue.

rbcat, What you have to try and understand in your concern is that we purchase the axles assembled now. The process is a proven one and we are unable to react directly as this is a vendor item. BCB is unable to work on the end of your axle. The indications from years of use in various other manufacturers and assemblies does not indicate an issue. The potential may exist, though the results forge a different opinion. We actually really like the older spring axles ourselves, though the USA made springs we used were outsourced to China and we ended our use. Thus torsion is the option we had. We totally understand your concern, though we have little ability to control it. Hopefully we are on the upside of this situation and it does not develop. BCB
