I am new to the aurora strapless cover. Has anyone ever had a problem with the metal ratchet scratching the hull through the side pocket the ratchet sits inside of? I have a Puma STS. And are there any videos on correct installation of the cover? Thanks
The ratchets should not scratch through either the Marlen or Aqualon material. The hooks connect inside the motor frame to the holes in the arms, inside the trim area. The ratchets are to be pulled tight. The small 1” strap around the outside is 5000 pound rated and you won’t break it. Be sure the stainless ratchets are lubricated (oil) as they can bind with the force required. Also be sure the strap tracks on the drum true.
Setting up the cover is the most critical, which means the front and rear support pole length, center pole length, the slack is removed all the way to where the cover strap enters the channel it runs in. This allows the ratchets full travel to the opposing end and the strap will stretch. Once you have it setup, ratchet the strap to where the straps, along side the hull, actually snap against the hull when stretched out and released.
There is a tremendous amount of tension on the straps when you have the cover road ready.

I have the same cover on my Lynx and it is the best fitting cover. Those ratchets, in regards to scratching, is a non-issue. It simply does not happen. I don’t travel anywhere without my cover on and it causes absolutely zero issues on rubbing, scratching or anything else for that matter. It fits like a glove and is very aero dynamic when trailering. Follow what BCB replied to in the above post and have no worries what so ever. 🙂
Thank you both for the replies. I have the 2 poles picture I am thinking these are the front and rear poles. I did not get a middle pole. Should I have? I see the snaps in the cover to attach the poles and I see the poles have some adjustment what determines the height of the poles.
Is this the hole for the hooks. Thanks again
Those are front and rear poles, and you will only have those poles on a Dual a console. The tension on the cover when taught regulates the height of the poles. If you begin at approximately 2” – 3” above the height of a folding seat laying flat, you should be close.
The holes are the multiple holes that extend through the trim stabilizer arms. Those holes are normally to insert a Trim Stop pin, which bass boats do not use. Others again run the straps to the stern eyes, which is not how it was designed. In some cases the stern eyes seem to help around some anchor pole (power pole) and bracket configurations. Which can wear the straps. The actual strap is amazingly strong for a thin material, as mentioned above.
Once all the straps, ratchets and poles are adjusted, it’s easy to complete the install in well under 5 minutes if you hustle. Simple in 10 minutes and time is a value.
Another Tidbit: Our cover design in use actually saves fuel and increases mileage slightly over towing the boat alone. Other covers we’ve tested do slightly cost fuel mileage. One competitive brand cover pockets when towing and piles at the consoles, that cover decreased fuel mileage over 1 MPG in testing.
Covers are a big deal and we hope to continue gaining on the excessive backlog over the next few months.
Let’s us know if you have more questions.

I have the strap running through in the power pole bracket to the holes I think u are referencing does this look right? Thanks again!
Looks fine to us.
Is it possible to get the 3rd (longer) pole? I ordered a dual console, but I won’t keep the passenger console in very often. The console is removable, so it seems logical that the 3rd pole would still be included.
We are sure they would provide a third pole for you if the snap exists. If not, we suggest a dowel and crutch tips.
I forgot about the snap. Obviously nobody wants that rubbing on the passenger console!
BCB – Is it the same on the Caracal where you put hooks? I’ve always use the rings for the trailer tie down straps.

That’s where all of the strapless covers are designed to fasten. Some do use the bow eyes and it works alright.
Thank you. I’ll try it.
