Axel problem

I have a 96 Eyra dual axel trailer. I am pretty sure the axel is bent as it has eaten 2 tires clean up un the inside and I can see the wheel is slightly turned in at the top. I took the wheel off and looked at it and could tell something wasnt right it looks to be bent near the spindal. What size axel do I need to replace it and where would can I get one fairly cheap east of Houston. I do have a tractor supply in town.

They should be able to tweak it at an older I Beam alignment shop. They may have trouble with the end, though it is doable. BCB

Cost verses return, yes if they can do it. There is no reason not to. The axle wont come from a Tractor Supply as it has to be built and they are not overly expensive, though not cheap. They are not built with Chinese and Indian assemblies or welded overseas like a discount axle.

Sounds like a plan. I will be looking around to see what I can find for a shop that can tweak it back.

FWIW, I had this issue a few years back and I scoured the Kansas City area for a frame shop that could do a similar axle re-alignment for me. I did not find a frame shop that had equipment that the trailer would fit on. I bit the bullet and purchased a new axle assembly from Basscat. It came complete with hubs and now I keep the old hubs as spares. FWIW…

Ive got one axle left from a 1990 Pantera 2 trailer that I replaced. I live in Nacogdoches but the axle is in Lufkin at a friends house. Ill be down there Thursday morning and will look at it and make sure the spindles look fine. The axle was the one with brakes on it but you could pull the brake assembly off if you did not want it. Go to a body shop. They have a lot more versatile equipment than a alignment shop. If you were in the DFW area I know my son could straighten it for you. Johnny

Hey guys thanks. Nac Cat if you still have it in good condition I will be interested. I have a few body shops around here that may be able to make it straight. But a new/used axle may be easier and cheaper.

Actually Aceman it may be easier and cheap for a body shop to drop that hub and straighten the spindle. It does not have to be exactly perfect to get the tire wear out of there.
