So the entire rear seat post holder wobbles on my 08 Cougar. It is not the bushing as I can wobble the post from inside the battery compartment. How can I fix this? Thanks,JR
JR, let us dig p the post that tells how to repair that. Its in here somewhere.
I took some aluminum dryer venting material, cut to fit and slid it in between the post and the deck. Then put a hose clamp on to hold it.My question is why would that loosen up? This is on a 2012 Eyra I bought in 2013….
5keepers, a 2012 shouldnt loosen up. Those are supposed to be installed with a particular method that reduces wear. Sorry you have this issue on a 3 to 4 year old boat. A 2008 model is a totally different situation as age does take a run at that install. Though its not hard to reset. Its a little bit of a characteristic in the design which sleeves the top and glasses the lower base in to prevent deck flex. The leverage wears onthe top sleeved part. Production also had a tendency to over size the hole, or drop the seat pedestal too low in older boats. This reduced durability and the top bushing should stick up with about 1/4″ to 3/16″ of aluminum above deck, not above carpet. The plastic bushing should extend above carpeting. The method below resleeves the seat post. Newer boats have an aluminum trim ring which was added on fiberglass decks models without carpeting. This was to insure the post extended beyond the top deck. This is from 2012:This is caused from leaving the rear seat in place all the time. The aluminum seat pole with time wallows out the fiberglass just a bit and makes it loose. It creates a space between the fiberglass deck and the seat pole. We have nothing that will be a quick fix. What we have done here is wrap masking tape around the alum. seat pole under the deck from inside the battery compartment. Then from the top side pour resin or an epoxy based filler into the void to tighten up and fill that void. The tape on the bottom side just acts as a dam to keep the resin or epoxy from running down the seat pole and not building up. So the tape is wrapped around the poll to build up thickness.BCB Admin

I had the same problem on a 05 Puma. I solved the problem by taking an epoxy paste and filling in the area around the post from below the deck. The epoxy paste is the consistency of Vaseline and stays where you put it. Its been rock solid for almost three years now.
I had a 88 model caracal that done this . My fix was I machined a bushing made of hardenend brass.I made the mushroom at the top a little larger than the worn area at the deck . Used a brass hammer and tapped it in. It was a snug fit. This bushing was still there when I sold it in january had been there at least 10 yrs. Still solid as a rock. Takes a little figuring. For the most part it will be made exactly as the plastic bushing with the exception of the mushroom at the top. A little careful measuring is all it takes though. I assure u it will be the last time that bushing will be replaced.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
On my 01 PIII when I replaced my carpet I used black tape around the post below the deck to seal the bottom of the area around the shaft, and poured in fiberglass resin until it was flush with the deck.
Reminds me of my best friend, about 265lbs at the time rocking back and forth with the waves while he was sitting down… I put an end to that REAL QUICK !! Mine is still solid, I think, havent checked 2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
