After a couple of issues with this I want to see if there is an easy fix. After recent trip get home and start to back into my basement and the break will not release. Well happened before so I know the wiring is not connected somewhere (backup light on trailer is not on). After fooling with it and spraying with WD it came on and worked fine. Did not do this at the ramp but it is steep so no pressure on the coupling. Is there a quick fix? Maybe something to coat the wiring clip with?
Odds are the ground on your vehicle could be the issue, or the solenoid is failing.
Heres what I would try. Unplug and re plug trailer wiring from vehicle. Could be bad connection. If the other lights on the trailer are working, chances are the ground is OK. Most of the tow vehicles nowadays have fuses for trailer wiring, if it was factory installed. The owners manual for the vehicle should have a list or diagram and there may be a fuse for the reverse lights and I would check that. Lastly, before I changed the solenoid, I would make sure I was getting 12VDC at the solenoid with a test light or multimeter with the tow vehicle in reverse. No need to start the vehicle for this and make sure the parking brake is set.
Ok i just went through this, figured it was brakes needed bleeding, bled brakes no dice. Ordered and replaced actuator, bled brakes, towed to lake brakes locked up in reverse, angry… Came home after using lockout key in and out of water for the tourney and backing into garage, Bled brakes again, actuator went straight back, no pressure to keep the brakes from locking out. By chance i put truck in reverse, walk behind trailer and notice no reverse light on trailer…reverse lights on truck work. Check voltage at the the plug 7 pin adapter. good voltage. Grab the wiring harness plug (trailer side) squeeze it, solenoid instantly activates, reverse light on trailer comes on (truck running in reverse with Parking brake set). Can duplicate this over and over… Order new 25 wiring harness, cut and splice the new plug on, and everything works. (Bottom line is, spent many hours and 160 bucks on a new actuator/solenoid for a 1 dollar plug on a 20 dollar harness) It may be the solenoid but it very well could be a worn out plug that is made in Taiwan.FYI… I check under trailer parts and couldnt find the replacement harness for the trailer on BCB site, so googled and found what i needed, only to see a few days later BCB has the harness under the Misc section….no sense to me why they wouldnt have the trailer harnesses in the trailer parts section…
By chance is it a ford? My 02 ford had factory towing package but didnt even have the relay to feed the power . If you have a 7 point plug and dropping to a 5 plug check the blue wire for power.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
The five pin harnesses can be cleaned out with a 17 caliber bore brush, the flats of a 7 pin round can be cleaned with a fingernail emery board, after cleaning use some dielectric grease to keep out moisture.JSLAW call Bass Cat if you do not see a part for your boat or trailer on the parts site, as they probably have it but just not online. It takes a lot of time and resources to put every part of a many different models and years of boats and trailers on a website and I do not think they can justify the resources or manpower to do that without raising prices of everything.
Not Ford Acura MDX, dealer installed hitch. This problem may be issue with leaving hitch wiring connector plugged in truck all winter. I will try clean up (actually have a .17 bore brush!) and grease first then go from there. I “cured” this a few years ago with a new plug, but the trailer connection has never been replaced. Thanks all!
i have the ford issue what did you do
Web if the relay is not in your vehicle, you just have to go to any auto parts store and get one and put it in the panel. Your owners manual will tell you which panel, location and size.
thanks
