Ive been looking into adding backup lights for a while. I have to back up a curving driveway that has no lighting. Gets even worse when the leaves start to fall. I can blow it off before we leave, covered back up by the time we get home. My first thought was the newish “dual revolution” lights from Trux if you have seen em. REALLY looked nice. Classic 6.5″ oval shape, red, but when you energize the extra pin they add, the thing turns completely white rather than red. But they kept mentioning the word “waterproof” without using the magic word “submersible” so I contacted them and they said “nope, can not be submerged on a trailer. I had already noticed this because a guy I know has em on his ranger, and when he was launching the other day I noticed one did not work. When I mentioned it to him (it was the passenger side which probably isnt quite as noticeable to the driver) we went and looked and sure enough it had water inside about 1/2 way up the lens. Good idea, but needs a sonic welded body.Next thought, which I am going to try, is the new Optronics light that has about 1/4 of the oval shape dedicated to backup lights. Has a second 2-wire connector (positive and ground) to turn on the backup lights. Anybody tried these? My intent was to avoid drilling / cutting holes in the fiberglass fenders unless that is the only viable solution. Found the optronics lights for $29 each online and ordered a pair. When they arrive, first test will be to verify that the lights are bright enough to actually be useful. More later.
