What a bad start for me with my new for me, used 2010 Bass Cat pantera 2. Only the second time out and the Mercury blows the powerhead. How has the Pro XS been running for other people?
Ouch! Sorry to hear that. It can happen to any motor at any time but seems like the 200 Pro XS has been a good engine.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
It happens, but not too often. Too many factors involved, but ive put my 225 Pro XS thru some tough times and still runnin strong. Actually ive never blown a powerhead, not on 4 Mercurys, 2 Suzukis, 2 Yamahas, 2 Mariners, not one. I run only mfgs premium oils, good gas, Lucas fuel treatment, and do preventaative maintenance. If one is gonna blow i get the impression it will go in the first 50-100 hours, and it is normally due to some part or assembly defect, OR operational error like running too high for adequate water pressure, etc,,,,,It sucks, but it will fix.
In addition to the things that dbasketman mentioned it is very important to let the engine warm up to at least 120 degrees before taking off.
Thanks for the Help!
At this point the boat has been a total mess. The motor, trailer, lights and live well have all broke in the short time I have owned the boat. I have missed 3 tournaments with all of the issues. Im still down after 8 days with the delay from the vault people in mailing my parts out. At this point I would not suggest getting a basscat in the north with no support in the area.
madcliff, Where are you located? What have you been waiting on from Vault? (UFP)We are not sure what was up with your trailer though we will try and figure this out with you log distance. Of course the holiday has us hung some with shutdown though there are a few folks in shop Monday and they can be reached. BCB
Got the Madison area from a search. The are not a lot of bass oat sales around Madison on any brand and we would think a drive up to Wendts would be in order if you can slip up there to see Scott.
With all the problems you are having, it seems lack of maintenance by the previous owner may be the root cause. We have all had issues at one time or another as things break. Basscat usually has the parts you need in stock, but I realize they are closed this week for inventory and vacation. You should be able to get any of the parts you need on the web or by phone as they are sold by a few retailers. It being a holiday week will put a damper on any parts shipments from any supplier as the shipping companys shut down on the holidays also. Dont forget that as you get these items fixed and if you do regular maintenance the problems should mostly disappear. Heck I blew a bearing on the way to Arkansas 2weeks ago even though the bearings were only 1 year old and were not hot or leaking grease 7 miles before when we stopped for gas. I put it down as ___t happens. I hope your luck gets betterJoe FuerstHouma, La
It sure seems that way 1stinla. It will be 10 days on Monday for my hub system from vault. I missed another tournament today. Im at the point of selling it and giving up. Thank god its under warranty. It has cost me over $600 in missed tournaments already plus my sponsors wont be happy with the missed time.
