By all means, jack up each side and pull the wheel side-to-side. ZERO play is acceptable. If it has play, you are probably lucky and need to replace bearings. One of mine had this problem, and when I checked the spindle nut (that holds the hub on) was loose. But it was loose because the bearing was in the process of falling apart.If there is no play you have a bent spindle, or else it is possible you have a warped wheel. Hit something hard enough and the wheel itself can be warped, even if it is an aluminum wheel. Seen it happen on cars more than once.
