Anyone ever experience what feels like a fish pushing or nosing ur crankbait? Just lose all feel for the bait for 1-2 sec the returns,,,chked and chnghed plugs. Still happened.Ideas tiket them to commit? I have changed rear to a vmc with the stinger hook t o see if they short swiping. Never hooked up bu trying to figure out but would likr to knowe whts goin on whthg this,,,
That happens at times in early Spring when water temps are 50-55 and Im throwing an X-Rap Shad or Suspending Rogue, and later when they start spawning. Maybe a few times on a suspending Deep Little N in Summer. But not often. About all you can do, or at least me, is pull straight up on the CB to see if you can get a hook in them that way.
Set the hook. Most of the time when the wobble comes off a crankbait it is because the fish has it in his mouth. I have had a few days when I experienced the nosing you art talking about, and I would suggest changing size or color of crankbait on those occasions. I have also seen bass come up and swipe at a crankbait with their tale which can change the feel. But, for me, and I fish cranbaits a lot, 90% of the time it is a bite.
Depends to me if cb grinding or u chasing suspenders. Suspenders Id change. Grinders Id reel faster. Likely ur on a shallow river RV? Id pick up a 5xd and crank that sucker as fast as I could stand. Dbasket and I caught about 50 of various brands yesterday and that happened all the time. Usually its when theres a school present and the are all fighting over it when its grinding fish were talking about. I love nothing better than to toss a 5xd in there and have that happen first- usually for the next 20-30″ after that ITS ON.Last edited by clownshoes on August 9th, 2013, 11:58 am, edited 1 time in total.C.O.D. SET THE HOOK !! — The worst that can happen is you haul water . — More often than not he / shes got it , and in turn , you get him / her . — I love surprises anyway .
I had one nose a jig yesterday,,,,,,,,,,Only a really good friend takes you fishing and nets your fish for you !!!Thanks Dubya !

Ya…youre getting bit.
By the books….youre supposed to change something whether it be the speed of retrieve, color of the lure, or size of the lure. Doug has some big ol meat hooks….thats a nice fish! I see the Power Poles are down. From what I experienced the last 30 years of bass fishing…the fish has engulfed the lure and moving toward you. Crank fast and set the hook hard and whatever you do dont stop reeling till the fish is pulling away from you, then set the hook again. That fish wants whatever it is you have thrown it and has crushed the bait. I call it “purgatory” because its in the basses mouth in “between”….like a void area. What happens is you will set the hook and have the fish on for a while then it just comes undone. Ever experienced that? What has happened is the hooks never got buried in the mouth. The bait will move up to the inside of the basses mouth and just stay there. You know how they can clamp down. Only once his mouth opens does the lure leave. When you have this feeling is when you have to set the hook super hard and dont stop reeling. Just my experience.
I think a lot of em just slam it from the side mouth cause theres competition in the school present. Just throw it back in there. Find it hard to believe a 2-3# fish can grab a 5xd entirely in its mouth and not get a hook or you at least skin hook them for a second and feel a head shake. Most of the times I get this its just the vibration that goes away.C.O.D. Jr. III

This has happened to me quite a few times in the last couple weeks, Id be grinding along then all f the sudden for a split second or two Id feel the vibration stop and almost like the cb being scooted or pushed faster than Im reeling. Ive done everything but set the hook so ill try that next time and see what happens.
This very same thing has happened to me MANY times this year with the 10XD. You can feel everything with this bait and I have on many occassions told my partner Im fixing to get bit. I could feel a difference in how the bait was pulling. I would compare it to having slack in your line without the fish knockling slack into it. I would say 75% of the time one one grab it within a couple seconds of that bait lost in space feeling.Do you guys feel your bait rolling over fish? The bait is digging a ditch on the bottom and you can feel the bait lift and come in contact with a object, not rock or wood and then get back on the bottom. When fishing mega schools on the lake this happens more than I like to admit. usually the fish are not so active and a slower presentation is needed.
Appreciate all the good info…Changed back hook to a VMC with the one long stinger hook and gonna try again. Was fishin shallow runner on bluff bank in about 10ft water. Changed colors and runnin depth once and still happened a time or two…Got tomorrow to figure it out.
