Curious if anyone on here is fishing the open next week that starts on Thursday? If there is and you run south down near Ft Ti, run across blue/silver/black Pantera Classic with a old fat guy on the front possibly sipping a Long Trail lager, say hello. Im on vacation and heading up Tuesday for the week to fish and relax fishing on me Cat. Supposed to stay warm and muggy up there the next 8-10 days. Hopefully not to much wind. Good luck and have fun.Brian
There will be plenty of BCB anglers there Brian.
The pics I have seen from a friends practice thus far is astounding.C.O.D. Jr. III
If any are running all the way south and need gas, call Buoy 39 Marina ahead of time and Cindy will meet them at the gas dock. they still have non-ethanol gas too. When Elite were there they would run down with half a tank to save weight. Get a half tank at the marina for the run back. They made the Fort from Plattsburg in an hour. They were moving! My camp is there and serves as home base. Wish them luck for me.
Brian – My dad, Hugh Crumpler, will be fishing the Open up there. Ill tell him to keep his eyes peeled! If you see a red & pewter Puma FTD with a 250 SHO on it – thats him.Cheers,ScottLast edited by Scott Crumpler on July 17th, 2010, 4:19 am, edited 1 time in total.
I will keep an eye out for him. Red seems to be the color for BCB on Champlain but SHOs arent common yet. Do you know if he is running south or staying north? Fishing up there has gotten better over the years a I hear. Think cause they came down, got our bass, and took them north! Oh well. I wish your dad well, hope he has a great tournament.
Not sure yet – I havent talked to him since he headed up there a few days ago. Ill ask him when I call him later. Do you know if the south end has a stronger concentration of largemouths, or vice-versa?
Most bass you will get south are LM this time of the year. Early spring/late fall you can get SM shallow (3-4) lb not uncommon mixed in with the LM. Ive not fished north so I cant say up there but I know a lot of tournaments have been won north and chances are you arent going to win with just SM to weigh in. For the last 10-12 years tournaments have been catching bass south and releasing them north so it has bound to have gotten better up there. Im heading up to camp Tuesday morning for the week and out early Wednesday. Weather is looking good, supposed to cool off a little. When does practice end? Good luck.Brian
Brian -Many thanks for the info. There is currently no off-limits period for the BASS Opens like there used to be years ago. The 3 days prior to the tournament (Mon-Wed) are “official” practice days, but you can fish the lake any day before that.Cheers,Scott
Not sure if I saw your dad or not, there were quite a few Bass Cats out there. One red one with an rude (red on red) was tied to a house boat the first day getting towed north. Hope that wasnt him! I got a picture. I also got many pictures of Icconelli fishing on Friday, I was the only one there. I can post some here if its OK. Havent tried to post any pictures here but cant be to hard. I can transfer from Photobucket. Mike was great, saw him catch several fish (not big enough so he made the cut unfortunately) and he held them up so I could get a picture even though I was he only one around. And he gets as excited with one or no one around as he does when the cameras are rolling. It was fun to watch from close by. Man the pros fish fast!Oh, BTW. I didnt do to bad either. Didnt get a lot of fish but in four days I did manage a 4.7, 5.0, and a beauty yesterday weighing in at 5 lb 11oz. Got pictures of that too thanks to Cindy. Several Bass Cats stopped for gas at Buoy 39 but not Ike with that SHO. Man those things sound like a jet taking off and must be good on gas too. One of the nicer Cats was white with bright yellow “check”, very sharp. Was a black on black too that was nice. There were a few variety red pewter silver or white versions too. No pink boat though, Kevin must have stayed north. Was a great week but it was hot and humid, never cooled as project earlier in the week. When the sun wasnt beating down it was raining so weather not great. South wind was brisk but those days the fishing was the best too. And my orthopedist came in 3rd in the non-boat competition. He always does decent on Champlin. Got to git him out of that T boat though and into a Cat.Brian
