Battery boo boo?

Went to get ready to go fish tomorrow and when I flipped on the master power I got nothing. Tried the trim, nothing. Looks like I left the key switch on all week. Is the battery toast (2005 Puma original battery) or will it charge. After 45 minutes the Cull-M-rite has green lights but still no power? It was blinking red/green when I plugged it in.

Thats an old battery, but those deep cycle batteries are made to take a full discharge and recharge. Might try hooking it to a portable battery charger and see if that might work instead of the onboard charger. It could be that the battery was in bad shape already and you just found out now that youve drained it fully. Good luck. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax

Nope, checked all that. I just got back with replacement battery. I connected a small wire to one post and could not get a spark. Redneck volt meter!! At least I found it tonight rather than 4:30 in the AM!!

Try a separate charger, though we have killed a few batteries in the last months testing them, and they have not recovered when they were tapped out. BCB

Try connecting/jumping a good battery to the dead one when trying to get it to charge. Most battery chargers need to sense a battery before they will try to charge it……..Sherm

I would also add that most cranking batteries are _not_ “deep cycle” batteries. If they go flat, the plates sulphate badly and damage occcurs even if you can re-charge them. This is more noticable on the merc optimax motors that do not like weak batteries at all, although in your case 4+ years is really good battery longevity anyway. My trollers hardly ever make it beyond 2 years, 3 at a max before I can really tell the difference out in current or wind. Cranking battery usually gets replaced with the trollers.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

Thanks I will put a charger on it. But looking back I can see where it was getting weak indicating less than 12 volts etc. The new battery cranked right up and held all day. Now if the fish had come out of hiding!! probably caught 20 or more and the largest was 14.75 (limit is 15″). Dont know about you guys but when something like this happens before a T it just throws me off! I replaced it with pretty much the same battery (BPS) 1000 MCA but I will keep an eye on this one after a couple of years. Thank again!!
