Well, my charger went out on my 96 Pantera II. As it went to the shop for some other maintenance items repaired i asked the shop to go ahead and change out the charger with the 3 bank I bought at Cabelas. I walked in the shop this weekend to check on the ride and noticed they mounted the charger on the underside of the bilge compartment lid on the passenger side. My question is should I be concerned about this? The mounting bolts do not go through the lid, but Im worried about gravity and the over hung load of the charger on the lid. I asked why it wasnt mounted where the old one was on the inside of the transom and was told it was too difficult to get to with my power poles pump bridge and it would not fit in the old location. Am I overreacting?
Was the old charger removed or did they just leave it in? I think you should have been told what would be done. Reinforcement might be possible and should be done. I have had 4 or 5 built-in chargers go out in last 25 years it was way to difficult to replace one even without extra stuff in bilge area. Mr.. Rick recommended a Lester carry along back in 08 and I could not be more satisfied.
Unfortunately many places of business forget who they are working for, who is the customer, and who they are supposed to make Happy. I hope you arrive at a situation that satisfies you!Dan
Im not saying it wont work,,,, it just wont work on my boat. Too much stress, and weight for that set-up, imo.
Sounds like not much forethought on the part of the shop . — Too much weight for those 4 little screws to hold up even in MILDLY rough water conditions , IMHO . — Why is there never enough time to do it right , but always enough to do it over ?? — Im in the automotive service industry , and my personal opinion is that I would not do anything half-a–ed for myself , let alone for a customer . — Talk to your shop and Im sure he will take care of this . — At least I would hope he would . — Mark
sounds just short cut to me?
Mark, I like that. I have ran my own construction company for 34 years and I will never forget what my Grand Dad preached! Anything worth doing is worth doing Right!!DanBIGCATTER wrote:Sounds like not much forethought on the part of the shop . — Mark
Spoke with the shop this afternoon. They said they would move it to the back. Thanks for the input, it made me nervous to think i could be running across the lake hit a roller and thing go crashing down in the bilge. Thats why i enjoy this forum so much. Any worry or concern an owner may have can throw it out there for input from fellow enthusiasts. Thank you guys!

I cant handle crap like that. Its so hard to find people that take pride in their work nowadays. Its all about turning a fast buck it seems. I had some Gelcoat repair done recently and run into issues. A lot of times Your even afraid to even take things back, for fear it just gets worse.Sorry, this was just a good opportunity for me to vent on a serious pet peeve of mine…. “Just Git-R-Done” workmanship.I hope they got it worked out
