I ordered a Puma STS. I haven’t got it yet. I ordered it with three 12v lithium (trolling motor) and a single AGM crank battery – part of a package with the PowerPole Charge.
I’ve already decided to replace all of those batteries with two 12v crank batteries in parallel, and two 36v trolling motor batteries in parallel. I would like to place the two 36v on one side and the two 12v on the other.
I will sell the batteries that come with the boat – no big deal.
My question is… does anyone know how the batteries will be installed from the factory? Will the three 12v be in the standard BassCat “double” battery tray, all together on one side? I think 3 of the lithium batteries fit in the double tray since they’re smaller?
And I assume the 12v crank will be in a single tray on the other side?
I would like to stick with the aluminum BassCat trays. I’m trying to figure out if I should just order another single or another double? I don’t want to bother my dealer/rep – just thought someone on here may know.
Or will there only be two 12v trolling motor batteries on one side, and one trolling motor and one crank battery on the other side?
Shouldn’t you at least try the factory suggested setup before expanding on it. We don’t think you’ll have an issue even with larger graph setups.
I have already purchased the new batteries. I’ve done the math on all of my graphs/accessories and the factory setup will not be sufficient for what I want to do. I’m not criticizing the factory setup. It’s what I ordered. I’ve just changed my mind on what I want. This may be the last new boat I purchase for many years and I’m not going to have any doubts about it. I’m going to rig it the way I want it and be confident in my setup. I had the same basic setup as the factory setup in my last boat and I understand what it is and isn’t capable of.
I’ve also discussed with people like Matt Looney. Obviously Matt wants to sell batteries, but the math doesn’t lie. I bought 4 new batteries from him during his Black Friday sell, and already have a buddy who wants to buy my factory batteries – so it works out.
I will probably have to wait until the boat arrives to see what the battery trays look like and run it with the factory setup for a couple weeks while I plan to replace the batteries.
Whole lot of money and effort for much of nothing. You could have just added a 120ah Lith and ran your graphs for 2 or 3 days straigt. I added one battery in mine. I run 4 graphs, rite hite turret, and soundwave and run them 2 and a half days without charging.
A 120ah battery would not run my setup for 2-3 days. By the math, it could be dead in a single day. I’ve done my homework. I know what I need and what I don’t.
Im not asking for judgement or criticism on my setup. I just asked a question about battery trays. I will just figure it out myself.
TNReb, that should be a great set up for you. I’m sure it will do all that you will ask of it.
Just a heads up if you need to remove the factory trays and reposition them, if you have not done it before. The factory uses both screws and an adhesive (Euroflex) to fasten the bottom of the trays. What I have found to be the easiest way to loosen the adhesive is to heat up a scraper and then gently and gradually pry away at the Euroflex. It will come away very nicely. I reconfigured the trays in one of my Cats previously.

Thanks for the info. I was aware they used an adhesive, but I never tried to remove them in my last boat. I’ll wait until the boat arrives and see what needs to be done. Hopefully I can just add another single tray without having to remove anything else.
catdude28, is Euroflex the same adhesive that is used on the 3700 tray that is glued in the bottom of my rear/center front storage box?
Thanks, Will

Yes it is the same adhesive.
TNReb – My 2023 Puma STS came with 2 12V trays on each side. Each tray holds a size 31 battery. I did not get lithiums; I have one starting AGM and 3 lead acids. I have one graph up-front and one graph at the console.
