battery ?????

Can I just leave the batteries in the boat over the winter plugged in on the charger? Its a Norco charger. Or should I just plug them in every once in a while. The boats in my garage and its insulated and doesnt get to cold in there. Thanks jeff

I use an Apollo 7 digital timer ($16.00 on Amazon)Leave the charger plugged in, timer is set to come on once every 7 days for 24 hours. I have Optima batteries on a ProPack III charger. Last edited by RazorCat on December 6th, 2014, 12:28 pm, edited 1 time in total.

We never condone leaving a charger plugged in. There is a lot going on when a battery is being charged from both the power into the battery, gassing (hydrogen) and the power converting the AC voltage to DC voltage/amperage inside the charger. The amperage conversion and voltage is not small like your cell phone charger. It is much greater in size and we feel should be used with oversight and regulated to reduce problems associated to potential failures. it is a man made part and most every man made part fails to some degree.

As basscat said !! I plug mine in 1 a month, keep eye on fluid level.

In other words, there are two types of battery chargers. Those which have failed and those which are going to fail. A simple failure fails to charge. A severe failure burns your house down. Dont leave your charger plugged in full time in your garage. I have left mine plugged in for extended periods, but mine is in a warehouse, not my home.

I use a master switch to shut off the dreaded “phantom draw” to the dash etc. Running AGM batteries, so in off season I just plug the MK 330 in and give them some juice, about 30 minutes, once every 4-5 weeks.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

I bring my batteries to full charge, disconnect all connections, and put it away for five months. In the spring, an hour or two on the charger brings them right back up. However, I have no access while in storage, but, if I did, I would do as others suggest and charge it a couple of times a month. I no longer leave it on the charger 24/7 even when it is at home.
