Home › Forums › Bass Cat Boats › BCB is this forum still in development?
The reason I ask is because one “very important” improvement could really make this forum easier to visit and participate in. In fact I think it might be the bigest reason the forum appears to not be reaching the interest it once had.
The change I am referring to is this……
When we open a thread that we have read before and maybe participated in, it opens on the first post and we have to start scrolling down through the thread to see where the first “unread post” is located. We simply need a “button” such as the one that is on the Bass Boat Central forum that we can click on to “view first unread” and it will take you to the first post that you haven’t read yet. Without this feature, the forum doesn’t seem professional and is not a good reflection on the great quality of the BCB brand.
This is not a rant by any means. I am just trying to suggest an improvement to the forum that BCB and the members can all benefit from.
We accept the criticism as productive. The forum was selected by our web service company, not the advertising group and we down the software and forum. Bass Boat Central and other forums have a more open forum appeal as they use a Zerforums, vbulletin and other forum companies to host theirs. They simply have more options.
The original first forum took a major hit when it went from Yuku to Crowd Gathering ownership, the final impactful blow was the transition of the Yuku/CrowdGathering forum to TapaTalk. Then the expected drop in engagement with our shift to our own platform.
There are things people don’t like and those range from having to login and hit the capta before posting, to the format itself. We don’t disagree that things could be improved, though a lot of users are also now on the Facebook Owners Group. We actually are not fans of the Facebook use for assistance as the archive is not easily tacked or searched. It’s simply always fresh.
While we will continue to develop this forum, change the skin, appearance, features, we know it is a rebuilding process.
We also are aware some Bass Cat Owners have not accepted the transition well.
Our fingers are crossed that we get better, and owners get accustomed to this platform because fundamentally ownership change were dealt with since EZ Board, 20 plus years ago. Every one was some form of a challenge to users, as the .com companies were acquired. We had been through 6 different ownerships and changes.
Some were when people accepted it, today they despise change.
I don’t believe that most people despise change. I do think that the vast majority resist change that is counter productive such as requiring everyone to change pass words and the extremely excessive security for logging into the site. Nobody likes to be drug through a knot hole. And most of all people don’t like being ignored when concerns are voiced. Arrogance is a bad ingredient for customer relations.

Thank you for the response. I’m probably like most forum members who are frequent participants of other forums on the web. There are very common features consistent with all forums such as the “view first unread” button. So when you jump from one forum to the next, these features are expected and very much noticed when all of a sudden, the BCB forum does not have this feature.
Your response said: “While we will continue to develop this forum, change the skin, appearance, features, we know it is a rebuilding process“.
Ok, so we can look forward to improvements so my suggestion would be to add the “view first unread” feature to the top of your list of things that will have the most impact to the forum. Thanks for considering my input on this.
I also agree with you on the Facebook Owners Group. Good group but only live posts with no archives. Not a good replacement for the forum but who knows what the future brings. Thanks again.
It has taken some getting used to but for me the new forum has grown on me. I still need to figure a few things out but overall it’s not bad. I don’t post as often as I used to just due to time constraints. It’s really nothing to do with the forum format that slowed things down for me.

Hi Chris. Good to hear from you. I still enjoy the forum too even though I would like to see it improve.
By the way Chris, shap from la, where do you think I got the idea from many years ago for “JEH in La”? LOL

We own the Outkast Fishing Forum also and that one was a real challenge with the Russian hackers and no Captiva. One week we had over 2300 spam posts and it took forever to knock down those posts trying to sell tennis shoes, when really they wanted your credit information. The time wasted blocking people, finding their URL’s and IP addresses was intense and wasted most of a weekend.
Thus the captiva here and the knothole so to speak. We are discussing the knothole and trying it without the security, though the SPAM robots are numerous. For every true registered user (1 person) at one time on our Yuku forum, there were 7 robots trying to gain access.
We have had two (2) web site attacks towards BassCat.com since this forum became operational. Those all most likely originated from this forum and we realize that most people don’t understand that happens, or how.
BCB
As the forum as a whole. Its not bad. Though a few changes would make it better. Yes the one jeh mentioned is one of the needed changes. Ive actually learned the navigation pretty well. One issue i have is im constantly getting emails to my personal email. Ive been all over the “settings” and cannot seem to stop that. Any guidance would be of help for that.
I know the average person does the facebook thing. I guess im the odd ball out on this. Not even a account for me!. I do believe the “action for bcb chatter” lies in facebook. I been visiting the bcb forum for several yrs now. Use to everday there was a couple or more new post. That simply just dont seem to happen any more. With the number of cats being sold one would think it would be “wide open”. Leads me to believe everyone just chooses facebook. Not sure that will ever change
I actually never use the “view first unread” button. What I do like is scrolling my cursor over the title/subject and getting the first bit of the OP’s entry. I get quick insight to what the post is about.
I really enjoy the Facebook Bass Cat group. Its great for meeting other BCB owners, and checking out BCB rigs. However, many questions are asked in reference to problems, performance issues, trailers, launching or loading the boat…etc. Instead of getting a direct, or even the correct answer, it become a crazy tangent without closure for the OP. This is where this site in so valuable. 90 percent of the answers would be found doing a simple search in the FAQ section. Many time I try and direct them to this owners site. Many times I have been questioned WHY do I keep wanting to send them here when the questions were answered. My response is, It wasn’t answered. Many responses, but none correct. I let them know that this site is directly supported by BCB, Even Rick Pierce will give his input when time allows.
With that, someone on the FB BCB owners group told me he was a BCB moderator and worked at the factory and supported the FB group. I thanked him for his support, but hadnt seen any input from him.

Don I agree with you on this feature. Being able to hover over the title and read the first sentence of the post to see what it’s about is also a great feature to have. I would like to see this added to the forum as well. To me, the “view first unread” button is important when you are seeing additional posts to a thread that you are following and you are able to simply go straight to that post where you left off reading last time.
To me this one doesn’t seem quite as fluid but I haven’t been on this one as much since the transition was while I was Bass Catless(I don’t suggest that either). But I like the layout and appearance much more.
I just keep looking to see if they’ve added the other boats into the builder yet. Lol
I have always enjoyed the BCB forum sites, still do. For me, I never had issues with having or not having a read first. With that said, I do think there are two significant benefits on the FB owners group versus this forum. #1, the ease and quickness of attaching photos, not only with respect to the poster but also for anyone posting replies with pics, multiple times. #2, the quickness for getting responses. Some of the pictures are awesome and helpful. For #2, I realize some of the responses may be inaccurate, but even those inaccurate responses sometimes get you thinking about a different direction that you’ve never even considered. I may add a #3, the ease to find out when a post updates and then it’s corresponding ease to get to the reply. Its the nature of the FB platform
With respect to the BCB forum, it used to be awesome when a poster would create a new post and it would proceed to outline seven different steps on how to do activity “X”, and include corresponding pictures. Then BCB would chime in and write, “that deserves a kudos, call parts for free hat”.
I’m sure I’ll continue to visit this site daily, no matter what, and same is true with the FB page.
The Kudo’s still happen when they are earned.

I still have my kudos knife (damn that thing holds a edge), flash light, and probably the hat but there are to many to know when I got what hat! Light is always in my truck (on it’s 3rd or 4th glove compartment) and knife almost always in my pocket. PS – the little light in it can be handy! As far as this format, vast improvement over tapatalk. I did like the original but this is pretty close and I like it. Took a little bit to get through the security steps but that’s to be expected with any new set up. I’m not on much this time of the year but during the snow months it’s a godsend. So kudos to BCB for a much better and user friendly forum. As far as getting to the newest post, just hit “end” on your keyboard and you will be there.

Thanks for the information on the “end” key schodackbassman. This key does takes you to the “end” of the thread, which is ok but it does not take you to the “last post unread” which could be many posts from the end of the thread.
Glad to see that you have received “kudos” from the forum. I also have received kudos and am very much appreciative for the great gifts included. Very nice of BCB to do that.
