What ever happened to the trail BassCat was looking into running. Its that time of year again.
We have long favored a full Pro Series for teams. Though with the present tournament climate and gross variances in events, we have not yet settled in on a format. The timing was right for such an event last year, and the year before, though now we have other Pro Am events clawing to grow. We are still in discussions on a format for Pro Teams, though not a Pro Am. We feel teams better allow a pair of anglers to share large entry fees, housing arrangements, fuel expenses and more that Pro Am formats do not allow. It just makes more sense than a draw Pro Am, non boater to boater format in todays climates. The largest weekend events are team events, so why not a Pro format. The sharing of a $1,000 entry fee would be the goal. We have considered this format for events and trails from Alabama and Mississippi to Texas. We may even enjoin those into one group for a Championship, though we are a long ways from offering this format. Things have taken a back seat to other obstacles which were not planned on. Though we are serious on the large entry fee for a team trail, and we think either a $1,000 to $1,200 entry is the goal. We know more teams would participate in an event with an entry fee from $600 to $900, though payback is more beneficial in the larger entry fees. Any Thought? BCB
I have some thoughts and will let you know those soon. Very intriguing, but very risky from your side.
BCB, in the past, I would have felt that a draw Pro-Am trail was the way to go, but within the last few years, I have sensed a switch in attitude perhaps due to the rising costs of boats, equipment, fuel, etc. I have seen a couple of draw trails really take the tournament scene by storm in my area. They arent pro level but arent bottom either and are very well attended. From the comments I hear especially from the group who want to fish upscale tournaments yet do not want to fish full-time for a living, that there is a desire to fish team tournaments and some anglers tell me that they just do not like the hassle of draw tournaments any more. Just one opinion.
That would definitely be interesting. Especially here in the TX area, I know the success of BassChamps that if this existed it would have the interest. The biggest 2 things that I can see is an aggressive off limits so you dont just target the retired, guys who fish for a living, self employed and people with super flexible work schedules and make it a 2 day tournament (whether that be Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun). I think it would be hard to toss up that kind of money for a one day tournament knowing that someone could flat get lucky one day but carrying for 2 days would be a lot more difficult. That is my 2 cents…since you asked Judd Lasiter
Good points Judd. I would love a two-day trail here, especially if the tournament was Friday/ Saturday. Judd is the only one here who knows about being self-employed, retired, wealthy, and with a very flexible schedule. He only mentions the off limits to make the tournament fair for everyone else. I wish…I have to work a 9-5 job to keep up with AJs toys That Fri/Sat tournament would be harder for the working folk JL
BCB As you know I have operated Team Tournaments in Texas and Louisianna for years.I believe that a Team Tournament Trail that does maybe 4 to 5 tournaments with a $750 entry then a championship would be great. The venues would be spread out through different areas. IE: Ray burn, Red River, Amistead, Eufala Then Championship on Norfolk or Table rock. Weve been thinking about this for a while. The hard part as you know is getting financial support to operate. Thanks Mike
