BCB rod straps

I have velcro rod straps and recently purchased the rubber straps to put on. I have a two-part question.1. Should I leave the velcro straps on and run both the rubber and velcro depending on how rough the water is?2. Should I trash the velcro and rubber and install the retractable rod straps? If so, how hard is install?TIA

Im sure your gna get a array of answers. Ive owned all three. I installed the retractable in my 89 model along with Velcro. My 13 model has the bungee style. I ordered the velcro to add stability at midship for my rods. Majority of the time i run my rods backwards from most. The retractable was a easy install in my older cat. The newer and depending on how and where you mount im sure would depend on the degree of difficulty. Me personally of the 3 i prefer the bungee style up front and the velcro midship on the rod locker.

Ive had both on my boat. Took the Velcro off because they limited how many rods I could have on the deck. The bungees hold more and are easier and quicker to work with. Havent had a problem with them keeping rods secure.

The overlapping Velcro will not come loose in rough water and hold rods extremely tight.

I had the retractable on my 2011 Cougar and noticed if the deck got saturated with water I would have water in the side compartments. I visited with Ivan about this and he confirmed, so I avoided the retractable on my 17 Jag.

I have both and love them both installed. If the water isnt rough i use only the bungee ones. For long runs with rough water i use the velcro and the bungee style together. But once im in my area i only use the bungee style as they are quick to use and strap alot more rods down quickly. I would not go the retractable type, but thats just me.
