I have a friend who wants to plan a fishing trip in mid October to Bear Creek Lakes near Russellville, AL. The brochures and web site look interesting. Has anyone ever fished these lakes or have any information about them? We would be fishing for five days and towing our boat to at least two of the lakes. Any fishing tips for mid October would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance to anyone who responds!john

Ive been wanting to go for a few years but havent made it up there yet. There are cabins you can rent, but only at Little Bear. Timmy Horton did a show there a few years ago.I think after reading about all of them, I decided I wanted to fish Upper Bear, which is about 45min. from Little Bear, where the cabins are.13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods

John, We have toured there and considered it for a future use on a National Team Championship. The area is pretty close to Florence and the lakes are a bit small. Fishing was on a level similar to reservoirs in the MH Area. Cedar and Bear are close and you can bounce around the lakes there. There are four options there including Florence / Mussel Shoals area. I live on Wilson lake about 30 min away from bear or cedar. Only one Ive ever fished was cedar. Watch your depths, things can get shallow quick and be sure to purchase a bcda permit. Its a lot spotted bass in that lake. I would consider fishing pickwick lake or Wilson lake while your in the area

Not wat most of the members want to here but both bears have some decent crappie fishing. The couple times I have fished for the bass was OK but each to his own I guess I live fairy close and I dnt make no special effort to fish there. Definitly watch ur graph. I have fished there several times in club events out of Huntsville. We normally fish what is know around here as Upper Bear. It is full, I mean full, or Spots that are all pretty much average. Very few Large Mouths. A permit is required daily to fish the location as well. Not much in the way of hotels in either direction. We have only used one launch location for a long time. I am sure there are others. It is alright, but would consider other spots mention if you are looking for some big water and bigger fish..

Thank you all for your responses. I will forward these to my friend. I guess the take home message is to pay close attention to our depth and possibly considering other larger lakes in the area. If we do fish these lakes in October, I will provide a review of our trip so that others who are interested will get some current info.john
