Just for comparison, I bought my current 2007 Tacoma 2 years ago. Paid $18K for it. These things hold their used value better than any truck on the market. So $10K will be touch. Truck is a double cab with 4.0 v6. Pulls my classic as well as anything I have owned (an 85 chevy full-sized truck, a 95 dodge dakota 318 v8, and prior to the Tacoma, a 2004 ford ranger extended cab (barely extended) with a 4.0. This Tacoma rides better, and tows better than any of those. Have yet to spin a wheel on the steepest ramps we have. Gets about 15mpg towing, 21 without the boat. Not great, but 15 is not bad towing my 08 classic / 200 pro XS.The main advantage of newer trucks is a better transmission with more forward gears. A 3 speed leaves a lot to be desired. Newer motors also have clever engine management like variable valve timing that greatly improves low-end torque (exactly what we need towing). Bottom line is, you can probably find a decent tow vehicle for $10K, but it will be “just decent” and might leave you feeling that you wish you had more later. Ive driven an ecoboost and it really pulled well. But finding one for $10K might be a pretty good stretch.I also drove an old dodge diesel that had a ton of torque, but was a rattling piece of junk with sloppy steering, sloppy suspension, sloppy braking, sloppy everything. Probably also NOT what you want if you drive it daily or for long distances.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
