Currently running a 25 T1 SHO prop on my Caracal?, It runs fine with good holeshot when light or medium loaded, but w hen I have a bigger guy as a partner and livewells full on tourney day the boat seems to have trouble lifting out of the water too fly to top speed. Any recommendations on a prop that should give better bow lift on a Caracal? Its got belly tank and one 10 gallon in back, 4 31 series batteries, dual poles so its pretty weighted down. Still runs fine until the livewells are full, that must be the tipping point for weight I guess. I have a 25 fury and a 25.5 bravo xs at home to try too but I havent got a hub kit yet to try it on my Yamaha. Thanks for any input.
Our suggestion is to lower the engine as the boat obviously was set up empty and the load is causing too much slippage. Lowering the engine 1/2″ should help dramatically.
Ive got a hydraulic plate, which is my first, so Ive been running it all over trying to figure out a plate to trim balance. Ill trying running it way down next time and see if that helps the issue. Ive generally had it set around 8 for the holeshot, drop it to 4- 5 when first running, then back up to 8 wide open.
We think that lowering it will help a lot.
Moss Boss I am halving the same problem. I have caracal with belly tank, saddle tank, pro xs, 25 fury, atlas jack plate. When you add my dad (250lbs) and his gear it gets very sluggish to get to top end. Boat gets out the water great then takes forever to get it lifted and running. This is only when the water gets hot. Have been looking for a solution for awhile. I fish quie quite a few evening tourneys with shot gun blast. If you get caught up in all the boat waves, boat will just squat with nose down and plow. Wont lift until I get to clean water.
Dont fall into the trap of over-adjusting. You dont need to dial the plate up and down as you run and change speeds. Most run em up to take off as it gets the thrust of the motor more in line with the hull to reduce bow rise. Then there is an optimal position that you can run from then on. If you continually tweak the trim, the throttle and the backplate, chances are good you wont ever find the optimal for all. Best to work one angle at a time. And make the changes MINOR. Not “way down” or “way up”. Tweak and watch speed for a minute at least.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
As usual , summertime sends us its performance troubles . — IE: Losing top speed – Poor hole shot – No bow lift – etc. etc. —- You have to remember that ” physics ” plays a BIG role in performance issues , as do ” atmospheric conditions ” . — It isnt only the water getting hotter , but the air getting wetter / hotter . — Youre fighting more than one foe here !! — As BCB said , drop motor a 1/2 inch , and drop one pitch in prop size with the same type of prop . — You have to accept the ” trade off ” for holeshot and lift , which will be top end . — Gain a little here / lose a little there . — These are my methods of coping with losing 20% of your horsepower , which is about the right number . — Hoss
I have a Fury 4 24 on right now and my Caracal fully loaded, full rear fuel tanks, full live well and my performance is pretty stout for this time of year. What is the difference between a t1 and a t2 sho prop? Mine came with a 25 t2 and for some reason did not want to turn more than 5700 with a full load.
I have a guy nearby that has a 24 -4 blade. Waiting for him to let me try it. Several guys around my area running the fury 4 on different models.
