I broke my ankle at the OI on the second morning(story for another day). Went fishing with my buddy yesterday, who I fish with a lot but he hardly ever runs the trolling motor. He knew going in he was running it all day. I have a power gator mount on the troller with the switch next to the light switch on the bow. He hit the switch for the power gator at least 50 tomes during the day. If he wasnt hitting that switch he was hitting the trim or turning the lights. I didnt say a word. Finally he said “How do you do this all day? I have never seen you bump any of these switches”. I said “If you keep your feet on the fricking carpet there is no way in hell you can hit a switch by accident”. Normally I really dont care about things like stepping on the seats and such, but he asked. After that he tripped on all the crap he had on the front deck, which he had been told all day to put away, and broke my windshield.
Cool post! I feel your pain! Often running the troller is not easy but we make it look easy. Im teaching my better half these things. She is learning if I break off. She automatically gets the troller. Though she is learning its not as easy as it looks.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
He was so tired he was ready to quit at 11 am
Its all habit? Yes, we get used to our limits and we remain inside those boundaries. People stepping on switches have not tried to set a barrier in their minds. Of course stepping on parts, tripping and grabbing windscreens is just learning. As for stepping on seats, the new vinyls as of about 2013 are good enough that it is made tough to handle the abuse like the older Naugahyde vinyls were. if you have a newer boat, please (PLEASE) step on the vinyl. Its made to use!
BCB I had an 86 Pantera for 15 years no sign of seat wear from foot traffic. The threads in the diamond stitching were wearing but I think it was more from sitting than walking.
The “big foot” problem I have on my Caracal, is the position of the switch which cuts power to the front trim, light and accessory switches. Its right where I like to rest my foot when fishing. Seems kind of ironic as that switchs purpose is to keep your foot from activating the other bow switches.
The most common issue with thread is protectant degrades it, such as Armourall.
One of my partners was attempting to get off the bow of my Cougar while I was gently parallel parking on the starboard side. He chose to use my ram mounted bow HDS7 touch as a hand hold. My eyes about popped out of my head as I said, “Dont worry about the bow, Im parallel parking.”
I feel for you, I have had partners break rods, nets, and kick tackle boxes, and glasses out of the boat. In the first TEAM tournament that I ever fished, my partner kept saying that I was front ending him (notice I highlighted the word team), so I let him run the trolling motor (20 mph winds that day), I caught a lot of fish that day, and he kept begging me to take back the troller, and I would say that he could have it. After about 2 hours I let him have a break as he was slap wore out, he found out that day that working the trolling motor takes a lot more skill than just sitting and fishing out of the back. We ended up in 3rd that day.
When my eyes use to pop was when I seen muddy shoes hitting the carpet. Leaving tracks from front to back. Notice I said (Use) I dont have that to worry about anymore. With the better side helping with the clean up often. She definitly understands the meaning of taking care of.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
