I am looking at buy a cat for the first time, and I have a question on picking out the boot color. I wanting a white hull, and I like the looks of it with a black boot, but not sure how bad scratch/scuff marks are going to show. Anyone have any feed back?
Depends on where you fish and type of water. If you fish rivers and shallow areas then you will see more scratches as you will have more. If you are on a mountain reservoir then it wont have many scratches to show. An option is one of the grey boots, depending on your other color choices.
I should of added that half of the year I fish standing timber lakes, getting the boat hung up on at least one tree a trip is common. Thanks.
My boat has a red boot and it has run in to its share of stumps and the only real mark on mine is when i ticked a rock once.
Trees only scuff the gel and dont scratch it unless they have rebar or engine and prop parts lodged in them.
Now thats funny! I never really worried about scratching my boat on someone elses lower unit wedged into a cypress stump but stranger things have happened I guess. Hey, another thought on the black boot… I had a white boot on my last 2 cats and depending on the lake [in Louisiana] if you dont take the time, every time, to wipe the hull down at the ramp before you head home youll eventually get a stain at the waterline thats tough to clean once dried. The cleaner the water the less you have to worry about of course but its worth considering if you spend much time on stained lakes or rivers. As far as the visibility of scratched on the boot, I havent noticed enough difference in visibility of any to ever think my black boot was a bad choice.http://www.justsayhi.com/bb/files/count … r=0&un=BCB OWNERS INVITATIONAL&size=normal&mo=03&da=27&yr=2007″ width=”250″ height=”80″>http://www.justsayhi.com/bb/files/count … r=0&un=BCB OWNERS INVITATIONAL&size=normal&mo=03&da=27&yr=2007″ />http://assets.justsayhi.com/badges/521/ … 57ol3i.jpg” alt=”” style=”display: none;” height=”1″ width=”1″ />
I fish coastal rivers in Eastern North Carolina. Amen about the “scum lines”. I have a 02 Sabre with a white boot, and I clean the boat after each use using Greased Lightning. It has worked for me for 6 years.
Ive had numerous black boots as well as whites. Black will show more scratches, but it takes a serious scrape to show. Most can be buffed out. The same scratches will also show on white at the right angle. Get the black is it looks better in most color combos.
Well Mike, You never know whats in Caddo Lake! I know I contributed a few prop blades, myself! LOL The rebar seems to grow naturally in Caddo too! Us Louisianans call it sucker rod” cause, if you are the one that is privileged to get on one of those rods………youre the SUCKER that has to listen to that gut wrenching sound and pay the price as a result!!! tae73 As far as a black bottom, I love them. I have had a black bottom and my present one is a red bottom. I would less likely buy a white bottom than a colored bottom, just because they show less dirt. Both colors have seen enough stump time from Lake Fork, Caddo, and the Red River to make ya head spin and the scuff marks are few and minor. I have had some that were worse but it wouldnt matter what color the bottom was, they would still show. Like BCB and Phil said, they are pretty easy to buff out unless you get into the gel coat. I have even used black wax on my black bottom. I would definitely go with a black bottom(myself) because, it breaks the boat up great and gives it that sleek look! Whatever color you decide on, wont be a wrong choice because its hard to make a Cat ugly! God bless, Chris
