Thinking about changing insurance companies on my boat and the cheapest quote I got with the same coverage was from SafeCo Insurance. Anybody use them and have anything good or bad to say?? (I am from South Louisiana so anybody on the gulf coast should be comparable) I have State Farm now but the price just keeps going up and I havent filed a claim on anything (car, boat, home). Thinking about changing them all to another company. Any Suggestions??
At least in my part of the country it will be more then noticeable. I can tell you sadly for any insurer it really has to do with the claims people in your area. Get a good appraiser or adjuster claim goes reasonably good, get a bad one and hang on. After 25 years of dealing daily with them I can tell you it really has to do with the people on the ground….unless the company has found a way to really micro manage them… I just had a SF claim….paid on the quote no questions asked. I was back on the water 24 hours after incident…Did not lose a days fishing….. Make your choice wisely..Ask some local collision and boat shops that is the best place to start…See how each of these companies are when dealing with the claims…that is when it will count.
Like you I had everything with State Farm till about 3 years ago. Boat, two houses, car and suv. Never a claim for years and years. The price just got to be where they were just not competitive. Switched to Farmers for considerably less. Still no claim but have saved quite a sum of money in three years. Im no expert on insurance, but I can buy a lot of bait with the difference.
I feel it is important to have a local person you know/trust to represent you. Im an agent with American Family, which makes me more bias in that direction. There are a lot of good companies, and lots of times unhappy claims situations are due to mis-communications. There isnt any policy out there that covers everything (no such thing as “full” coverage). But, if you have someone you know or trust that has a good reputation and has experience, you are going to be better off come claim time. My job is to help my clients within the companys guidelines. But, Ive gone to bat when needed if I felt they were right. Dont think youll get that from an internet company. Again, have a local rep to help you! Ben
My only advice is to avoid Travelers like the plague. I can tell you the sordid story, but they are _not_ end-user friendly. A friend tried to tell me this several years ago (I actually used Geico at the time, but Geico issued Travelers policies for boats.) I didnt listen and went “cheap” and lived to regret it seriously… Details available on request.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
I am with 1rudebee my wife is an agent with Shelter here in La. I had State Farm before we met and was paying what was probably someones house note for insurance on all of my toys and vehicles and house. I too never had a claim. But when I switched, we customized my policies to fit my life style and needs to the best of our ability. You cant do any more than that not to mention all of the money we have been saving. I had more money than I knew what to do with at the time with all of the savings. I will say that the more you give your new agent when you get one the more you will save. Meaning house, car, boat, buisness, lake house ect. life!!! Good luck and I hope that you save a whole bunch of money.
Go to the Bass Boat Central Web page and under the insurance form. Check with World Wide. He is a board sponsor. He beat everyone I checked with by over $200 per year. I went thru him and it came back written by Progressive. I had a quote from Progressive on my own and it was $125.00 higher. Hope this helps
I know someone who uses SafeCo, and he loves them. I will be using them when I pick up my Cougar next month.
I have been using Safeco for the last 3 years. Their one of the reasons I am now able to have a BassCat since they paid off on my first boat that sunk due to a rotten transom. (Not a Cat, by the way). No hassles, had check in a week. Have them for my vehicles also for 5+ yrs. I have a friend that went with World Wide. He saved over $100/year and got almost triple the coverage. Also pays a lower deductible each year until reaches $0 in “like” 4 years. I will be switching after this year. I hear hes a great person to talk to; very informative. Especially conscious of the tournament angler. Check out on BBC.
