Does anyone out there have a 2008 Cougar FTD with a mercury 225 optimax on it ? Mine came with a 26p trophy and it would not run . Whole shot was bad and would only run 65 mph (gps ).

It should have some more speed in it you need to mess with the motor height. Once you get steering torque then lower it some. That will put you real close. As far as hole shot that is adjusted via the PVS vent plugs on the prop behind the blade. If it bogs during take off without any reving then pull plugs…if it is reving and you have to feather the throttle to get it to go then put plugs in. Adjust for top end then adjust for plugs…each boat is different with load so it is hard to tell you where you need to be but a good starting point is going to be a blow out ring on the prop and L plugs in all four. We think a 24 Fury might be an option on that rig. Though we also feel an alternate PVS combination and vent ring option would get you more hole shot. On a Cougar FTD we also wonder if a 25 Trophy would be better than a 26? There are not many with std. 225 Optis on them in 08 FTD models.

I have a 04 cougar FTD, 225 opti, I run a 27 trophy (2 plugs installed) , great when I am by myself half tanks on fuel, good hole shot, cruise at 60 mph at 4500 (4-5 MPG) or so, tops at 73 or 4. I also have a 25 power Tech, good if you have a load or dragging kids on a tube or something, but hits the limiter to easy. I really think the 26 of some type would be the best. MKG
