Ive read JTodds article on chine walk multiple times. I even printed it and brought in the boat while attempting to set up. But I need clarification on one area. When attempting to find the ideal jack plate height, do I first trim up before raising or lowering the jackplate or do I leave the motor trimmed all the way down, plowing through the water, and then adjust the jackplate? With the kiddos back in school I should have plenty time to achieve the ideal set-up.Last edited by apdanos on August 17th, 2013, 5:52 am, edited 1 time in total.Aaron
Sounds like your trying to do it all and we suggest you set the engine height and leave it alone, and learn to handle the steering to trim inputs first. We have not read JTodds how to and we are not sure if that is credible information. There are how to links ans plenty of information on driving on these pages. One of the best ones is by an angler who has the same name as another professional though is just a common angler, Ken Cook. It is named “Chine Walk, you aint driving through it.”. There are several links on the FAQ section. It is a matter of setting the engine height at a tolerable level to where there is not steering torque, then using small step taps of the trim working your way up to mid range trim. BCB hulls generally do not require much trim or steering input and people tend to overdrive and overtrim their hulls. The boys at BCB can make you feel pretty s____d if they take you out and let it rip with virtually no steering input up to a very quick MPH level. There are exceptions though we think your over complicating the process trying to use a hydraulic plate. Hydraulic plates on a BCB are for shallow water use, idling timber, rough water handling and ride, power pole use, or just to run light and add a tick. We do not suggest hydraulics for average consumers as they are not usually a benefit or necessary. Just tossing money in to increase cost, more maintenance and situations like you are having.
What is your recommended prop shaft to pad measurement for a 2011 PII?Aaron

Are you working on chine walk issues or trying to get the best motor height for performance? If you have a hydro plate as it sounds just bottom it out hammer down an take off, once on plane you can adjust trim ,not plate to speed . Hold throttle at full or close an adjust speed with trim. If it starts walking bump the trim down to settle her an repeat when ready till you get the feel for it. If you have already got the chine handled the answer is move the hydro plate last. If manual plate run the inner an outer plates flush to 1/4 above. Sorry if I was no help but sounds like your trying to do to much at one time from the way it reads.
Yes. I have a Detwiler hydraulic jack plate. I want to learn how to control / handle the chine walk before trying to maximize performance. Aaron
Danos, if I remember correctly you live in the Houma area?? Id be happy to meet with you one day and try to assist you with your driving needs. Message me and we will try to set up a date and time. Not that Im an expert driver but I can offer some tips and possible give a hands on example of how much steering input is needed. Most people that have issues controlling a high performance boat of any brand are usually overcorrecting and exagerating the chine walk. I know I did it when I first started and it just took a few days of going to the lake and not worrying about fishing. Just driving and driving and driving until I got the hang of it. Im sure we can get you going in the right direction. Chris CoupelPaulina.,La.Last edited by Shap from La on April 28th, 2014, 1:48 pm, edited 1 time in total.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.

I was unable to find it on this (BCBs) site so I googled it (in case anyone else is interested):http://www.kencook.net/Chinewalk.html
