Boat wrap questions

Looking for feedback on boat wraps, specifically in the following areas: How well does a boat wrap protect the boats gel coat from scratches/blimishes/rubs marks/etc….? Is there any special maintenance/upkeep for a boat wrap? Do wraps hold up to timber, heavey brush, and docks fairly well? How can you expect a wrap to last and look good under normal conditions? What are the negatives to putting a wrap on a boat?Appreciate any thoughts….

I had my puma ftd wrapped for a year. Yes, the boat wrap holds up extremely well against stumps, limbs, etc. It does protect all of the areas that is covered. You can wax the boat wrap however i just used bass boat saver when wiping down at the ramp and this does very well. Now, for the negative….I had my wrap removed and overall was impressed at the installation. however, there was a few areas that had to be professionally buffed due to them cutting into the gel. It was rather frustrating, but was taken care of by taking it to a fiberglass man to professional buff the areas and it did well without any wet sanding needed. I really liked my wrap, but I will say that I am glad that it has been removed because I forgot how good my boat looked without the wrap. There are positives and negatives to a wrap. You have to decide what is best for you. Just my input

Never ever would I have a wrap just for the sake of having one. If you want to display your favorite sponsors then they should foot the bill +……….Period! There is not enough protection provided by a wrap to save you 2-3K. And when the wrap is removed………….theres likely to be damage from razor blades and heat guns. I have never ever seen a wrap to be in perfect condition from the first day. My advice…….your money, your boat, do what you want.

I disagree. Other than covering up BCB stripes, and designs, I have no negative comments about a wrap. It protects your boat wonderfully, there is no prep work involved other than a good cleaning, about someone is using a razor blade to remove the wrap, they do not know what they are doing. I have taken two off and all you need is to apply a light amount of heat from a heat gun in the tight spots and on the edges and then use aircraft brand adhesive remover from oreileys and a few towels to wipe off the seam sealer that the adhesie remover gums up. Unless you crashed into a dock and gouged through the clear cost into the fiberglass, your boat will look brand new again when you remove the wrap. Its a great idea if you are planning on selling your boat every few years. Especially when the sponsors pay for it.
