bow gouges ~ check your bow rollers

I have an 08 p2 with gouges right below the the strap eyelet from loading the boat.What happened was the roller wore down to the bolt and I did`nt catch it and gouged the crap out of it.My best way of dealing with it would be to put a bow gaurd on it ,what do you guys think?I looked on the net and it seems like they are all stainless ,does anyone know if there is one like a Hamby`s (like the one on the keels for beaching).My hull is black so I figured it would look deacent. greg,We modified your post title to get everyones attention. Sorry for the bow issue. We use the rubber rollers to reduce shock on the nose. We did have urethane rollers, though gel shearing occurred with the impact of the roller and bow eye, taking clean hunks out behind the bow eye where impacts would press the bow eye rearwards. You can go to a urethane bow roller, though it will have the potential to cause a different type of damage. Sorry again that you damaged you nose. A regel in that area, or patch, is your best avenue. Hello Greg,I just found your post as I have experienced the same problem this year. I have a 2008 PII that I purchased in 2009 from Sherms Marine. I have the black roller and didnt realize it had worn down to the screw/bolt in the middle. It caused gouges to the bow near the eyelet hook. How did you fix the gouges? Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this? Man this pissed me off!Thanks,Rambow

I like the soft black rubber bow roller. It does wear down and eventually will break at the middle. I check mine each time I launch after parking the trailer. I also keep a spare soft rubber bow roller in the truck so I can change it out if I find the one on the boat has cracked in two.

Yup my black upper bow roller broke. Just got my new one but not before I ended up with a couple good gouges..Will buy some gelcoat to fill in scratches/gouges I made this year… Had some good ones…

My 2001 BC originally came with a traditional black roller which marked up the hull pretty good. A few years later, I swapped that black roller out for one of those clear golden Stoltz rollers, man those rollers were hard as a rock!Finally, I replaced the Stoltz hull-chipper bow roller out with a butter-yellow bow roller someone here or on another board recommended.Those butter-yellow rollers fall somewhere in the middle on the durability / hardness scale, yet dont mark my white hull near as consistently as the old black roller did.I like butter!

Happened to my sabre last year. Paid 200 bucks to have the gouges repaired at a fiberglass repair shop. More careful now!

The softer the roller the more protection for the boat . Rollers are cheap and easier to replace than repairing the boat. Thats my two cents even though we dont make pennies in Canada anymorePractice Angling CPRCatchPictureRelease2010 PIV 200SHO
