HI folks, Havent been here in a while. I own a 2007 Pantera Classic that I am real happy with. I would like to move the throwable PFD under the flip deck and convert the PFD holder into a between-the-seats storage box that you can still step on. Has anybody done this ?? Can the factory whip me up a custom box to replace whats there now ?? I dont want a wood box like was used a few years ago, the material is so thick that there is too little room inside. Looks like the fiberglass PFD holder could be modified into a box. I also find the no skid surface very hard on the knees when kneeling to deal with fish going into/out of the livewells, so I intend to put a more knee-friendly covering on the box. Any help or advice from owners/factory would be greatly appreciated. Fishdist on the California Delta
Look on there website and they have exactly what your looking for. Its a replacement with a storage compartment and two cup holders. I have an 07 pII and would like to get one also. I would call scott in parts he can help you out with any questions.. SN
SN Thanks for the reply. Yeh, I have already seen that one you mention. The inside of the box is really small….enough to make it not very useful. I have seen one in the flesh. The thick wood makes for a small interior. I think fiberglass is the way to go. I am thinking about a way to modify the existing fiberglass PFD holder. Install an aluminum back panel, cut out a lid and finish it off with piano hinge and aluminum fastened around the opening to provide a closure for the lid and also to strengthen around where the hole was cut out. Probably a thin upholstered pad where that bumpy non-skid is now. That box shown on the website wont be a whole lot of use on your pII. Fishdist
You could definitely customize you box and in a variety of fashions. We have not done one, nor have we seen one done, though we too have considered it. In some states the throw cushion is supposed to be readily accessible. While we dont feel they are right in their interpretation of that law, they still push it a couple of states. That is why we made the step with the cushion area. BCB
Is the carpeted step box available for an 08 Puma??
Yes it is.
BCB, I think the throwable is supposed to be readily accessible everywhere (Coast Guard rule or something like that). BCB is just the only mfgr that has responded to the rule. I believe the open location inder the flip deck on my Classic would also meet the requirement. The missing part of that rule is the idea of attaching the throwable to a rope so you could pull the victim back in (and the rope will definitely not fit into your box). The FG box is real sturdy and I think it could be modified to do the job. Please keep me in mind if you have any ideas or would like a guinea pig. I will probably have to buy an extra box anyway to work with and keep the boat intact in the meantime. Just as soon pay you to do the mods if you feel like taking it on. My specs though. I want an upholstered pad on the lid to kneel on while working in the livewell, a recessed lock, a water seal on the lid, and carpeting or rubber for the lining. There should be a front bulkhead inside to block off the pull handle and a rear bulkhead to close off the back. Make those parts and ship loose and I will hard anodize them in my anodize shop. The drinkholder should stay. I had a nifty bezel made up to go under it to match the dash instrument bezels. Interested ?? Fishdist on the California Delta
Is the carpeted step box difficult to install? I looked at my standard flip box for the throwable and it looks like its pop riveted in, would you drill the rivets out and rivet the new box back in the same holes?
Not according to the regulations, just easily accessible. Though the interpretation is what is getting them on a few east coast states. BCB
