braided line

Do any of you fish with braided line if so what kind and what type knot to use. Last weekend I tried braid for the first time and had to break offs with fish, dont know whats going on. Thanks Chris

i use it flipping and with frogs, I use Lynchline and never have broken off a fish, Lynchline is hard to come by now, Terry Oldham marketed it in the early 90s and at the right shop yu can still find it, the spools that are 15 years old are still strong as can be, the only thing i dont like about it is that it is white and you have to color it yourself

I dont use braid much, but I have several friends that do. They use Berkley Fire Line. They use polomar knots, and they seem to do fine. If they want to use a mono or flurocarbon leader, they use a swivel, and attach it to the main line and leader using polomar knots.

Spiderwire Original Braid. Actually I use palomar knot. Just have to back off the drag some or adjust your hook set technique. Ive only broke off a couple of Lake Fork bass in 13 yrs. Good luck96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

Same here, original spider wire is good for flipping, spinner bait, and topwater too. I use a carb line leader when fishing a senko sometimes with a blood knot. Swivel probably would be smarter to avoid line twist.Use a pole with a little more give (med-heavy) and wait until you feel fish to set hook or you can pull bait right out of their mouth. Breaking the line, never had it happen. I use a trilene single knot.

What size line are you using? I have broken the lighter stuff but I cant see anyone breaking 50+.As for myself, I dont like it but it does has its usefullness like fishing in slop.It will wear a grove in your eyelets.

I have the spiderwire 20lb EZcast. I guess Im using the wrong knot with it breaking. This is my first time trying it. Would using a larger size help the issue. I will also reset the drag. Thanks, Chris

You need to know if the knot isnt holding or you are breaking off. Big difference and two separate problems. Im guessing your knot isnt holding. Sometimes a simple overhand knot on top of a trialing or polymer knot is good insurance. It also gets the tag end of your line point back toward the bait so the tag end isnt as likely to catch on slop or weeds.

I have found that only a palomar knot will work. I dont use braid much except for flipping heavy cover and for large swimbaits. I use Spiderwire as well as Suffix braid. My preference is the Spiderwire. The original is still the best. This stuff will damage a reel as well as the ceramic on the eyes of your rod. I tie all braid to mono to help protect the spool of the reel but as far as the eyes of the rod go…well I have never had any damaged eyes but I also dont throw the stuff enough to wear the ceramic out. Bass Pro Shops brand braid in 50 lb for toads and 65 lb for frogs and flipping mats. Palomor knot w/ a half hitch works great for me. Ive heard a double or triple Palomor works great too. Braid definitely has its place around grass and pads. I like berkley fireline on my spinning reels regardless of condition.Last edited by rlb8s on May 11th, 2010, 10:51 pm, edited 1 time in total.
