I am currently running a 25 fury on my new caracal but like the lift of a 4 blade prop and handling so my dealer suggested I try the Bravo I. Can anyone make the switch to it a lot easier than level measure multiply buy .181 then adjust the gearcase etc. How about simply where to start with the jackplace. Should it be even, an inch over an inch under, etc. I know it wont be exact but a good starting point. Thanks for you help.
Rule of thumb seems to be increase pitch by at least 1 if not 2 when switching from the fury to bravo xs. Depending on what youre wanting to get out of the setup, I would say just go up 1 inch. I ran a 27P bravo and I loved how the boat handled, especially with a load, but it idled a little fast and didnt power load well at all. That was with all 8 holes open. The bravo also offers half sizes as well. I think a 26.5 would be ideal on the Eyra, so maybe a 25.5 for the Caracal?
My dealer sent me a 26 Bravo I as I was only getting 5500 rpm on wot out of the 25 fury. Anxious to get it on and called BCB to ask for a height on the jackplate because I had a tourny on Saturday but they didnt get back to me yet. I have nothing but problems loading the Caracal on the trailer so the prop will just be another thing to get used to just cant find the sweet spot yet. It will come. LOVE the boat and ride!!
I cant speak for the Caracal, but on my Eyra, I ran the Bravo .5″ higher than the fury. Ive heard some say they run a 24 fury on their Caracal, depending on load. I dont know if that means you need a 24 or if you might need more seat time to maximize what you have in the 25. Im sure more will chime in that can give you much more info on your model than I can. Congrats on the new rig!
No experience here with the Bravo, however I do run a 24″ fury on my Eyra when I need to carry a really big load or when Im fishing shallow water and need a better hole shot. The 24″ fury handles better, better acceleration, better midrange, better rough water handling, better for heavy loads in the summer heat. It does give up about 2 mph to the 25″ Fury but everything else is better. Might solve any issues you are seeing. Still runs 78 by myself and 76 with 2 big boys tournament morning. I had a 25 Fury on my Caracal with the vent holes open on an SHO. With a full load it was very slow to plane and was tough to get up to 5500 RPM WOT. I just put a 25P Bravo 1XS on it last week, was told by the prop dealer that a 25P Fury is more like a 26, so I stuck with 25. I pluged 4 of the 8 holes and put the large opening plugs in 2 of the others. I have only had a chance to run it once, but the holeshot and acceleration were noticably better. I will doing some more testing later this week and if need be will change the plugs. I am thinking that I am going to like the Bravo so far.2015 BassCat Caracal225 Yamaha SHORaymarine Axiom 12sTwin 8 Red PowerPole Blades
Where do you have your jackplace set for the Bravo?
Did you adjust your jackplate at all when you put the bravo on?
While I ran the 27 on my Eyra, I had all 8 holes open. It vented the same, regardless of the load. Hold the throttle wide open, the motor will wind up to 4200-4300 and holds there as the nose lays over. The holeshot wasnt any faster than the Fury, but it was a lot flatter.
