How can I verify the breakin time without Smartcraft? I also would like to install the smartcraft guage at a later date and want to know if I can take out my speedo or tach and put it in the empty hole. I have a 07 Pantera II and have limited dash space. I am amazed that my cat has every option that BCB offers except Smartcraft. My dealer must not realize that it is a popular option. Thanks Shannon

Shannon, Youll just have to do it the old fashioned way, use a watch ! The countdown feature on the smartcraft is nice, but if you do the break-in in one trip it is just as easy with a watch, and varying your rpms as the manual describes. Break-in on the new engines is not complicated, and just follow the guidelines and youll be o.k.. I bet youll have a blast doing it too, but is a pain keeping the engine in a negative trim, and all the while the big Merc wanting to run !!! Just keep her under control as the manual suggests and after the proper time, well,,,,Turn her loose ! Welcome to the family, i look forward to seeing you on the water. D.

Take her with you to Mtn Home and put in at Bull Shoals…run 30 minutes and then turn around and run back. By then you are good to go except no sustained speeds…always vary and not for long for the next tank or 2 and you will be ready to roll! I bet you are dying…cuz it is freezing in TX so I know yall are dying up there. Judd Lasiter

They have given you the best information on this. Just take your time and break it in trimmed down, with throttle and a watch. The thing about those analog gauges are the cosmetic appeal of dial gauges. Some folks prefer the analog look, such as most Alabamians. The Smart Craft is about 50/50 there. BCB

The main reading i enjoy on the smartcraft is the engine temp. gauge, but at speed the analog gauges are much easier to read, especially if youre wearing polarized sunglasses ! Judd, The 200 Opti break-in differs a bit from the 250. youre required to put 3 hours on the engine before really pourin it on , D.Last edited by dbasketman on January 22nd, 2008, 8:59 pm, edited 1 time in total.
