Bunks

Yea, our bunks have come unravelled. We would replace them once you have a chance. Sometime at the lake build a cardboard template of the placement on yours. Build or buy new bunks, Drop the boat in the water, take an electric impact wrench, undo the existing bunks and replace them using your template. You will have to really pull the front of the long bunks in hard and may have to use a strap.

Good lord willing, I plan on keeping my boat a long time and would like to understand this more.

I would have sworn someone posted a drawing of the bunks with the dimension of the taper/cut of the bunks some time ago but am unable to find it in a search.Did find this on a post from 2009;I just made new bunks and put them on my trailer. I ordered the Carpet from BCB parts and they gave me the exact deminsions on trimming the 2×6 boards. The Carpet comes pre-cut so you dont have to do alot of trimming there. If I remember correctly this is what you have to do to the 2×6 boards. Rip them from 5 1/2″ down to 4 3/4″ the entire length. Then the last 14″ from the front outer edge of each board should be ripped from the 4 3/4″ to 4″. That is where you get that curved look. Then you put your saw on a 45 degree angle and make a cross cut on the very back edge of the bunk to give it a finished look. Very simple to do with a Circular saw and will save you alot of money. You can do all 4 bunks for under $100 including the Carpet and Staples. If you want to put the bunks on by yourself bring a ratchet strap with you to pull the bunks down tight to the trailer so when you dill and bolt them they wont move around on you. You may also need to strap and pull the very front part to get it to center up on the front bracket. Chris Coupel Paulina, La.
