buying a boat

put my 2000 sabre up for sale last week and am pre approved for a good chunk of change with a good monthly payment have found a boat in Canada for sale by owner a good looking white erya with the 250 which is what I believe my dream boat and its priced good. now the question is buying a boat out of country from a non dealer sounds kinda risky he is willing to take to sherms marine for inspect and sounds like a very nice gentlemen what should I do to protect myself from fraud in this case. I want the boat for the oi in texas and am in no hurry to loose a bunch of money I have talked to a marine in texas about keeping an eye out for boats that fit my description but the erya in Canada fits perfect. any help would be appreciated

I bet that BCB knows the Canadian owner and if Sherm knows him, Im sure theys can vouch for him. I know of a 2010 or 2011 Eyra for sale here in Montana as well.

if he will meet you at Sherms, not sure how you can go wrong. plus Mikes right if he got it new BCB should know him.

Here in Canada, we do not have “title” like you do in the US. Boats get registered, which provides proof of ownership, but does not provide any indication if there is any kind of lien or money owing on the boat. There may be some type of department for each province which could provide some type of lien search, but, frankly, I do not know.

What province is the boat in? Any kind of agency would likely be provincial.

I sold the Eyra in question new and will be selling him another new rig for delivery in spring- early summer.. I have been selling several in Canada each year but to date have not taken any back in on trade. Im as sure as I can be that all will go without a hitch.. Sherm
