Buzz bait set up

What set up do most use for pinpoint casting and good hook setting? What type line and rod do most pros use? Thanks golfen

I use a 7ft MH Fast usually with 50-65lb braid. As far as brand goes its all personal pref. I dont like Power Pro because I think its too rough, but a lot of guys do. ALWAYS have a trailer hook. If you get a chance check out the Cavitron by Megastrike. I wont touch another buzzbait now.- Chaz

I use a Bass Cat 7 Cranking Rodbut any long rod with an extra fast taper and light tip will do. A high speed reel is a must, I prefer something in the 7.1 area with a large spool. I dont use braid on buzzbaits, instead Im normally throwing 15-17 pound mono and will change it often. I throw a Boogerman brand most of the time without a stinger.

Thanks, I like the Megastrike, trying to find a local dealer. $6.50 shipping on small order steep and I dont find them offered by BP or TW. I use two of their products now but had never gone to website.

On board with SuicideNemesis regarding the Cavitron. It is superior to any buzz bait I have used. On rod length, I am an outcast. Personally prefer a 6 rod for casting accuracy, but have lost a few fish due to the shorter length. If accuracy is not critical, you are better off with a longer rod.

Usually the shorter rods with shorter handles are better for pin point casts. Something 56″ to 6 with a pistol grip would be best.Braid is definatly the way to go in my mind. Make sure you have a forgiving rod to absorb some of the pressure of the hookset on those shorter casts.I prefer Quantum setups. 7.3:1 reel for sure and the new EXO series is amazing!!!!Jamey

Thanks for the replies. I fished my Tues night tourney last night and was using spinnerbait and switched to a buzzbait and a nine pounder caught me. I was using a 63″ Fenwick Elite spinnerbait rod and I had floro on it and it was hard to keep bait up. Won $350 so started thinking bout tackle. I think I am going to use a Kistler 69″ all purpose rod with 7-1 Revo and 14lb Suffix Seige unless any other suggestions come thru. I use braid on spinning rods and that is about it, I got accustomed to fishing with finger on line years ago and keep cutting my fingers with braid.golfen

As far as braid, I usually fish buzzbaits around heavy cover and lost a few on both 17lb mono and 20lb flouro. I have also used a 5:1 reel to keep from overpowering the bait. I prefer a 734 C Powell…….good for both long casts and also close quarters. I also opt to use 17# mono. The line floats and has some stretch in case your a little trigger happy (although braid works well also). And with big single hooks like Buzzbaits, Swim Jigs, or Chatterbaits its always a straight-up hook set. But just my $0.02. Oh and for the most part its the in-line double Persuader Buzzer. Easy to get on plane and takes very little effort to maintain a slow speed. Also depending on the fish some like it steady and some like you to mix it up with periods of slow/fast.Last edited by justind on March 30th, 2012, 3:26 pm, edited 2 times in total.

Although the Floro has very little stretch it does sink so your best bet for any topwater is mono or braid.
