Caracal Set up help

Hi All, can anyone help me in set up direction with my new Caracal? I have all break in done and boat did not have a lot of lift or speed/rpm. I lowered the engine as shown in plate pic and it ran better. Put 8 3700s and two bags of plastic in the front compartments along with life jackets, 8 rods, fire ext etc. but now it seems like it just does not come out of the water at all and wont come close to 5000 rpm. Did I move it the wrong way? If anyone can give me advice I would appreciate it. This boat has a standard plate with a Mercury 225 and a Fury 25P. No poles, talons or extra w

There was some guy on here getting 78 out of a caracal not too long ago. Cant remember who. You might want to do a search and get in touch with him

Allan Glasco, really nice guy. In central Alabama area. Such that tread up his phone number is in it. ( he has hydro plate an 2 poles but Im sure he could still advise you).

How much trim are you using at that speed, and have you run the engine higher with trim to determine how much steering wheel torque you have. The engine height seems very close to some we have set up. Those may not require the same engine height as yours however. The engine height is a variable of about an inch between some different propellers, engines and boats. BCB

Tucked under to start, trim to level increases speed and rpm but no lift. Any trim up from there just results in rooster tail. Max rpm is below 5k regardless. I need help, this thing has never been right.

Start with prop to pad of -3 1/2″I think you are probably too low. My jackplate is approx. 1″ above the transom mounted plate.

Just got back from the local lake where I lowered it about another 3/8. Hole shot is good, rpms go right up and no giant rooster tail although once it hits about 50 mph it starts rocking/walking real bad but it is going in the right direction. Also the water pressure is now way higher.

Sounds to us like you have a little seat time to gather now. That is a much better situation and in time you will grasp it. Its all in the set up and if you have too much trim you overtrim and increase handling issues. Glad you are close to the right path now. BCB
