I haven a friend in the car business. He has a fellow that cleans the vehicles on site. The steam cleaning they use works great and by the way detailed my boat for 80 bucks.I have it done twice a year.
Yes it will work fine if you have stains. The carpet is a polyolefin fiber and will not harm easily. The harshest thing on your carpet is sunshine. Another tip is to flood your carpet and use a Wet Vac on sucking that water out. It will also give you pretty good results. BCB
i soak it down and then scrub it with 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water then rinse really good with water and wet vac, looks like new!
Dont scrub that carpet too briskly because you can loosen the knap from the backing. It is not that tightly woven, and you have a rubberized backing that absorbs the glue to enhance adhesion.BCB
Ive been using BassBoatSaver to remove stains. Grease, spilled coffee, even Spike It plastic dye. Seems to work fine for me, just spray it heavy on the stain, let it sit for a minute, then gently scrub with a soft bristle scrub brush in a circular motion.
I use the white vinegar/water mixture, works well. Do not use any soap to soap up the carpet , youll have a hard time rinsing all the soap residue out and what is left will attract dirt faster. Dont use any type of pressure washer, even the ones at the car wash have enough force to lift up some worn carpet off the deck Hose the carpet down real good then scrub it with a stiff bristle brush to loosen up the dirt. Saturate the carpet real good, take the nozzle off your hose and let the water flow on it. Make a mixture of 1 pint of plain white vinegar to 7 pints of water. Use a garden sprayer or spray bottle to saturate the carpet. Scrub it with the brush again, the vinegar will loosen up the rest of the dirt and residue in the carpet. Turn the hose on and rinse real good while scrubbing. Use a shop Vac to suck up the water or let air dry. Fluff the carpet up with a brush and it will look like its new again. If you have some real bad stains or worn spots, Resolve carpet cleaner is great for cleaning up spot stains or real dirty areas. You can get it at any grocery store. I had a rider get in my boat last year with some tar residue on his shoe, spot about the size of a quarter, my back deck was covered with these spots, must have been 100 of em. took some scrubbing with a small brush and the resolve , but the light grey carpet came up looking new….good stuff to keep in your boat cleaning supplies.
I used the exact method described above and it worked great. Got it from this board. Dont remember who.MartinCould have been from STANH. The tar marks ring a bell.Last edited by MOUNTAIN CAT on October 27th, 2007, 10:22 pm, edited 1 time in total.
I have tan carpeting which has to be cleaned regularly to keep it looking nice. Out of necessity, I have been experimenting with quicker alternatives to the full hosing down approach. I now just use a bucket of warm water/vinegar mix and a good old fashioned white small nap terry cloth towel. Plus, this doesnt require that I pull the boat out of the garage. I first spray any heavily soiled areas with a good capret cleaner – the Woolite brand with oxyclean seems to work well. Rubbing the carpet with the wetted towel seems to work best when working mostly in one direction with the nap of the carpet. I buy the 3-packs of the small white terry towels for about 2 bucks in the automotive cleaning aisle at Wally World and use a new one each time. With a clean white towel, you can easily tell when youre no longer removing dirt from the carpet. The used towel then gets delegated for cleaning the trailer and wheels, before discarding.
Thanks guys!!!!! Will be giving it a try this afternoon.God Bless, Stephen
I am about to clean my carpets this weekend and wanted to know what everyone uses. I normally just wet it down and vacuum it up but I have a scrubbing attachment that I wanted to use this time. I have heard you dont want to use soap because it will attract dirt. Should I use just water or mix something in with it? I was thinking up putting some Oxyclean in with it and scrubbing, rinsing off with water and then vacuuming. Any other options would be greatly appreciated. ThanksGod Bless, Stephen
